Lucky enought to pull a late season cow tag here in Colorado and never even set foot in this unit. It is Unit 35/36. I will be going up for 3-4 day weekend hunts but would like to get any info that I can. So if anybody can give me a starting point for scouting that would be great. Also if anybody wants to wast time and go up with me let me know. Thanks for any responces Jovan

gunnut,I know a few parts of the area,I hunted it last year during the first combined season,it was 84 degrees opening day- unit 35.The elk were all real high in the timber.Unit 35 has a wide variety of terrain ranging from sagebrush to aspen and dark timber patches. It is not extremly high in elevation,if i remember right, the highest area is castle peak at about 10,000 ft.I will be hunting black powder there in sept.I have not hunted the late season there but I have heard from locals that it is a real slaughterhouse there if you get good snow.I would concentrate west of horse mountain up high if there is no snow.Take the Wolcott exit and go north about 4-5 miles to 1st forest access on the left. I have drove into unit 36 which is east of hwy.131 and the unit seemed to be all black timber all the way through,I am not sure how to hunt that.Hope this helps some....jeff.

THanks for the info. I will be planing to head up in a few weeks just to get a good idea of the area. I am hoping that it snows good for me and it should between Nov and Dec when the tag is good. Let me know how you do in Sept and if you need a extra set of eyes let me know I would love to get away from Denver when ever I can. THanks again Jovan

Gunnut, how did you draw a deer tag for unit 18 and still have your points. As far as I know this is a limited draw unit and once you draw you have to start over. I drew a deer tag last year in this unit and had to start over as well. The hunt code was DE018 01A for archery. This unit is mostly private. Where are you hunting at, we are going back this year to hunt elk on private land and I am hoping there is some leftover licenses i can get for deer. I didn't put in for did this year like an idiot.

I hunt the rifle seasons so there are lots of tags available. I put in for a PP for a first choice and then what tag I would like to get as a second choice. This unit has alot of private land but about equil amount of public land. I live in Denver and if you have any other questions get in touch with me and I can try to answer them. There will be a lot of extra deer buck tags and a few doe tags for the rifle seasons. Good luck. Jovan

Hunt code DE01801A has 481 license after the first draw. They should survive the leftover draw and you have a good chance to pick one up when they sell them to the public.

We already have set up for this unit and our tags for elk for archery. I am going to try and get a leftover deer license for this unit if they are available. I got one last year in the draw and just got it , just in case I saw a good buck while elk hunting. I saw lots of bucks all day long in the same spot on the ranch. This year I may take or day or two and see if I can bust one. We are hunting just south of Walden Colorado. Thanks, Erik
