I am!
Successful in the limited license drawing for a Colorado cow elk, wahoo! Semi-guided by a friend, will be travelling across the country for the experience of a lifetime this fall.

I will be heading up with a couple of friends and my wall tent to unit 18 third season. We will be hunting for both bull and cow and we also got our buck and doe tags. I was hoping to get a cow moose tag in the same area but no luck this year. I also got a late season cow tag for units 35/36 which should be a easy cow but you never know with this Colo weather. I have already been up to my unit once and seen a cow moose with her calf and a few does but I really want to get a elk down. Grandma has been asking for elk steaks. There is still room in my tent if anyone is heading my way. Jovan

It won't be too bad. Archery elk and bear coincide. Unit 105 for antelope is immediatley east of where I live. Unit 11 will only be a weekend for doe muley.

By the way, your little parasite/troll guy scares me.

Huntress
it sounds like you are excited !!
which season did you get what type of rifle are you going to use?
congrats on the cow tag

My group is hunting the second rifle season in unit 62. Out of the 4 of us, we have 2 buck tags as well.

1st year hunting colorado, I have a buddy that has a a pro shop in coloardo springs and i have no idea of what unit we will be hunting but i am looking forward to it. going to be hunting from sept 18th to the 28th

Drew 1st season ES tags for the Flattops units. Will probably hunt either 12, 23, or 24 depending upon what I find in a scouting trip this summer.

I'm hunting the muzz season in unit 76...

We've reserved a cabin in the unit for the season .. We will be hunting unguided but we may be hiring someone to drop us off for a few days...

I am hunting the looooong awaited unit 2 for archery elk I hope to take a 370+ bull but i guess a 365 will work too!!! Can't wait for this one. The good news is that it has rained the last three days pretty steady up there so the horns should be real good this year!!!!

I will be hunting on public land in Unit 65. At this point I plan on packing a spike camp in and hunting solo as I did last year. I will be rifle hunting. I killed a bull last year and hauled it to the nearest pack trail and then paid a local packer to bring it doen for me. I will be hunting rifle with a 300 Ultra Mag.

Who's hunting Elk in CO this year you ask???

From all the hunters I see each year, I thought every licensed hunter in the USA did ;-)

I'll be doing a Bull hunt 2nd Rifle and a late December Cow hunt

PRIVET LAND.
es lic. (2) of us.
didn't get my picks of muzzy, or first riffle,
but made a phone call and they asuried me that we would get a leftover lic. in the area we were looking at,
they only issued 65 out of the 500 they had ear marked for privet land in that area.
I cann't understand that the area is over run with elk.

dang, that sounds like a deal. Should look into that one for next year. How much was the land access fee (if you don't mind telling)?

the access fee is kind of steep,
he would like me to come out ther and bring as many guns as i can with as many shells as pos.
he has a prairie dog problem, in his hay fields.
hell of a nice guy,
loves to just sit down and talk, adn does he have stories!
other than that, 1000 acres are free.

Guiding myself on public land and whoever will tag along during bowseason. Hopefully I can get on some private land too or at least access to public that is almost landlocked.
Dvdgeorge did you get my message in your inbox?
Jeff

oh yes, I will hunt for a cow in late Dec. Rifle buck around Kremmling 3rd season and archery antelope in OTC unit. My wife has a 4th rifle buck around here I am going to put some time into!
Jeff

drew a 3rd season deer tag for 77, so will also get an otc bull tag also, public land

Hunting cows on the Cherokee Ranch south of Denver in January, hunting bulls in unit 12 second rifle and hope to pick up a leftover cow as well. Drew a ML tag for mulies in 51.

thanks for the replys

lots of good responses- sounds like there is going to be some great hunting stories to be told!:)

I'll be hunting unit 74 with my dad and a few friends, down around Purgatory somewhere. A week after the elk hunt is over I drive back by myself and hunt unit 49 for 3rd season mule deer.

Hunt4lyf, what season you guys going, we hunt in Purg area and down into the Hermosa drainage second rifle, I drew a cow this year so I'll probably have a chance at a 350 bull of course but oh well!

Cooter,
Just curious how you came about a cherokee ranch tag? Have you hunted it before? More elk than you can shake a stick at. PM me is you'd like. Thanks

Dutch, we're hunting west of Purg, probably gonna camp somewhere on Relay creek and hunt either the Hermosa drainage or up higher by Bolam pass, tin cup basin. We'll be hunting the 2nd season OTC bull tags. Good luck and thanks for the info.
