This rack was given to me this weekend by my wife's grandfather. The bull was shot by his uncle in the blue mts. of southeast Washimgton in 1943. The rack is a typical 7x8 with tons of mass.
Any guesses on score??

It looks awesome on the wall.

that's a cool old elk rack. good thing it's been kept inside so it didn't waste away. it doesn't have much for main beams, but does have exceptional browtines and 3rd points. the fact that it's a 7x7 helps it out too. the short 6th on the right side hurts it's net some. i'm guessing around 355 gross. maybe as much as 360. dang nice bull for sure. cool that you know the story about it too. keep it inside so it'll be around in 2100.

andyman...here's another washington bull shot in 1937...it still has the old original metal snap-on tag that they used to use many years ago... the fella that shot it was 20 years old at the time...the bull was standing on a frozen pond when he shot and missed...the bull jumped and fell on the ice and he was able to get another shot off as the bull was trying to get up...obviously, he connected...his wife gave the rack to me after he passed on....

thanks for sharing the pics. The story behind a bull like that is as cool as the rack itself.

The guys that shot the bull that I have had a cool story too. They cheated and used thier gas rations (during the war) for the tractor to go elk hunting. one brother shot the bull with his lever 30-30. When they returned home, they divided up the meat and the guy who shot the bull wanted the hide. Since the other brother drove his truck, he kept the antlers. They have been indoors since then.

I put a tape to them, and using boone and crockett's website came up with a gross score of 371 4/8 gross 352 net.
The palmated 8 point side is massive, but doesn't score as well. If it matched the 7 point side, it would be a 380 bull.
Does anyone know if it would make SCI?? My wife's grandpa would be thrilled to see that it made it into any record keeping book.

Both of those bulls are very nice bulls.
