I would like to know how many times it's took you the non-resident or resident hunter putting in for a controlled elk hunt in unit 36a-1 or any other unit for that matter to have success in obtaining a permit in Idaho. The odds really seem to be slim to none. I have put in for 17 years straight with no luck just curious.

I've never put in for 36 but I've drawn 3 times for elk in unit 45 over the last 7 years. Antelope is a tuff, been trying for 13 years for a tag in unit 40 and still no tag. I drew a late buck in 45 6 years ago and thats the only deer tag I've ever got. So over all for 13 years I've put in and only got tags 4 times, 3 elk and one deer all in unit 45.

I have been putting in for area 76 elk hunt for 8 years straight and have not been drawen yet.i am A N.R. though

I have been hunting Id. since 76. I am a non-res. and have never drawn a controlled deer tag that was not an unlimited draw. Have drawn 2 unit 76 bull tags, one in 82 and one in 88. Have drawn 3 antelope tags 82 in 36a-2, in 85 in unit 37 and in 02 in unit 42. This year I finally drew a great elk tag in unit 36a-2. Looking foward to that!!! Have put in for all three species every year since 76 also. Deer tags are hard to come by, only know of three people who have drawn late hunts. Good Hunting

I have put in on a group hunt in 36a-1 for 2 yrs. I archery hunt it also. Started last year in there and had the area all to myself. Missed a couple bulls last year. one opening morning a spike and a 320 bull last weekend. Choked big time. Could of killed 6-7 cows last year. Last year is the first year I actually went in there with a bow. Helped out a couple guys on there 36a-1 tag though. Great unit. I can't wait to draw it.

I've drawn 2 controlled hunts for elk and never any for deer in 10-12 years. I think a point system would suck like every other state that has them. It stil takes for ever to draw!

Here's my story...some luck, but overall not much. I am a resident, always have been.

2000 Moose Unit 69-1

2001 Deer Unit 69

Elk(Bull) Unit 66A
Antelope Unit 51

2004 Deer Unit 66
Elk(Bull) Unit 66A
Antelope Unit 51

Out of 36 different applications here is what I have pulled over the last 14 years. 5 cow elk tags in Unit 66. Of the five, one was drawn on second choice, and at least two of the others the hunts did not fill on first choice. So not much challenge there. 1 Antelope tag in 1995 and 1 moose permit in 2000. That puts that totals for antlered animals at 31 applications and 2 permits. Thats a whopping 6.4% draw rate. Whooeeeeee am I thrilled.

Alot of you may ask why not put in for a different unit, my reply is simple once you find an area that you like and become fimiliar with you don't want to change. I guess that I am my own worst enemy but thats ok life goes on. I have camped archery hunted spend lots of time in the area, its a great area. If you have every been there you now why it is a controlled hunt.
