My daughter has drawn this good tag on her first try. She is twelve and will be on her first elk hunt when she has the license. I hunted this area in 98 and got a 326 bull then in 2000 with a freind and got a 286 bull. I hear the unit has changed with the more tags issued. I'm looking for any advice, etc. on this unit to maximise her hunt. I'll try to scout a couple of days ahead of time(I live in CO) then have her fly in on the 7th as she has no school 7th-18th.

I've also emailed the outfitter for the unit. Seems like they shoot 280-300 class bulls. Id' love to do better.

If your willing to help with info. Please post or email me [email protected] I'd even be happy to call you back if you email a phone number Thank John

Hi, my buddy killed a 343 bull in unit 50 last year with his bow. I don't usually hunt it much anymore, but might be able to ask around a little. Where in the unit did you hunt last time?

we hunted mostly the desert parts with the small pockets of trees. We never made it to the thicker or larger forests so I don't know if they would be better or not.

anybody else with any info? Will not being there until 10/7 hurt her hunting much. She doesn't have fall break until then.

If you wait that long you might need to get some snowmobiles. Depends on what kind of winter we have. Good luck. Have seen some very nice bulls come out of that unit. My friend drew that unit also. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi, just got back from vacation. I would look in the antelope creek drainage. Probably in the leadbelt area. Last year the elk were still bugling into mid october. I have heard of several people spotting large bulls this year. I will let you know if I hear anything more specific.
