Idaho elk hunt

My dad and I each drew a controlled elk rifle tag for 37/37A. I bow hunted the unit last year and missed a big bull on the 5th day. Needless to say he had me pretty excited and I got a little punchy. We are hunting the same unit again and our outfitter recommeded deer as well. What kind of bucks can you expect in this unit? I saw very few deer and every buck was small. Also, for those familar with the unit what kind of bull would you hold out for? I know there are some dandies. We are hunting the first 10 days of October. Thanks.

Depends on whether or not you want to spend the money. I spent some time shed hunting in there and came across some big muley sheds up with the elk sheds. They are in there, but I think you are going to have to hunt pretty hard to get them.

It is more a question of your physical shape in there.Lots of steep country. Passing on decent bulls could mean alot more work for 'ya but could be worth it.I know there are numerous 300+ bulls along the lost river range there.
