Late season elk tactics

I was lucky to draw my FIRST ever elk tag in Oregon this year. I heard that the rut is in September and my hunt takes place in the middle of November. This will be my first elk hunt ever so I was wondering what tactics are needed at this time. It is an either sex hunt. Do calls and all of that still work at later times?

Congrats on the tag. Depending on the area your hunting, November can be an awesome hunt. The elk aren't usually as vocal as in Sept., but they can be found in herds. It's not uncommon to see several mature bulls roaming together in November. Most of the cows will be together as well with some younger bulls.
I would research the hunting area as much as possible. Talk to the G&F, taxidermists, and sporting goods stores in the area. You won't get any honey holes, but should get a good start. Go scouting and put your puzzle together.

Good Luck,

Josh
