My brother drew, and we go down the first time this year tomorrow. We tried a couple weeks ago, but he broke his ankle. So I think we will just drive around what roads are there and get a better feel for the area. We have talked to a few folks who have hunted it before, and generally get the same answers. Elk are high, low, north end, south end, and don't shoot the first 350 bull you see. We've been around there a couple of times, and I tend to like the look of the north end better. Seems to be less roads, and steeper. Hopefully we'll find a big one, and find him every time we go back. Tag of a lifetime, so we'll put in the time. I would be jealous, but I drew a San Juan Archery Elk this year also. My September is booked! And I found out last night I drew G in Wyoming. When will I have time for that one. I figure the Pahvant tag is most important, we'll spend most time there. I can't wait for September.

We didn't arrive until after noon and figured we'd not see much, but it is so green and lots of grass the elk were out. We ended up seeing 7 bulls and about 40 cows and we left at about 6:30, (prior commitments) Nothing huge, but was nice to see all the grass and water. Had we been there at first light, and stayed until dark I am sure we would see more. Mostly just getting a feel for the place. Go down again next Friday/Saturday. Then probably wait until August to find the big bulls. Did see a few others looking for elk, not to friendly though. I hope we can find a big one for my brother, once in a lifetime for this hunt, if it takes 10 day to get one, then we take 10 days.
