I just wanted to say hi. I just found this forum a few days ago and must say that it's pretty exciting to see so many California hunters gathered on the internet. I'm a technology specialist (Computer Guru?) for the state. If you guys have computer questions I'll try my best to help you out.

I've been a mule deer hunter for 7 years off and on with limited success. I try to hunt blacktail when I can, which isn't very often with the amount of vacation time I spend on my muley hunts.

The past 2 years I've gone to Idaho for general hunts, and it's been a blast. It's been quite the learning experience. Physically and mentally.

That said, mule deer hunting is by far my most favorite thing to do. No question about it. I do want to learn more about archery and blacktail hunting. A guy I've been hunting with for the past 3 years wants to start doing archery as well.

Sorry for the long post, I got excited.

Hey Dave,

Since you work for the State I'm guessing your in Sac. I'm just down the road in Modesto. Glad to see another local on the site.

I live in Oakley. My father went to a butcher in Antioch for some fat the other day and he wouldn't sell him any because he had 37 deer he needed to process.

That really surprised me. The way people are at work, I would think I was the only deer hunter in town. I'm even scared to talk about it in front of other people.

I love the Black Bass fishing in the delta, but I don't get out enough. Nice to see a neighbor on here.

Welcome aboard Davey and post some pictures sometime. I'm over to the west from you but up north of the Golden Gate in the heart of the Redwoods and Grapes..........Santa Rosa.

My best Mule Deer to date. A small 3x3 back in 2002. Second buck taken in X6B (Which seems to be a crappy X zone). I stalked him to within 15 yards where he presented a front chest shot for me. He thought he was safe in his hiding spot. I wish I had a bow instead of my old savage .308 rifle. Doesn't matter though, every time I look at his horns on the wall I can remember the stalk and kill clearly.

I had to take a couple of years off after that. Getting married and buying a home in the bay area took it's toll on my hard earned savings account. But, I'm back in action.

Yeah it's a small one but thats why I hunt. It's all in the challenge of finding the big one... for me anyways. I might get my first 4x mounted even if it isn't that good. I seriously cannot wait until I get one.

I live in southern California and I know what you mean about not wanting to talk about hunting.. The people I work with look at you like you have a 3rd eye on your forehead when you say you like to hunt.. I am going to move back up north to the Sacramento area early next year.. The only thing I like about So CA is USC football and dove hunting around El Centro.. You can keep the rest of it.. Anyway.. Welcome to MM Davey.. Lot's of nice people here..
