Area 100, WY

Hunted elk out there in 99 & 2001. Best thing you can do is spend your time scouting. It's mostly spot and stalk. Road hunting works in this area because the country is so big. You will want to know where the big bulls are located right before the season starts because there are plenty of local guys who will have done their homework. There's also a lot of cow hunters in the area and the elk tend to get stirred up during the first couple of days. In 2001 we spent the two days right before the season opened scouting. We watched a herd of 40 or so until dark on the 14th. We had a 6pt out of that herd on the ground at 7:30am the next morning. Unfortunately I didn't draw a tag there this year, or I'd have suggested you try near the rest stop at Point of Rocks. Good luck...

I've been applying for the past 5 years to hunt this area and keep getting passed by. Keep us informed on how it goes. If I ever draw this tag I'll diffently need assistance from people on these forums. Good luck

I also applied for this area 100 tag, but unfortunately did not draw. You will probably want to spend a few days before the season opens to do some scouting, or have a good spotting scope! Probably one of the best trophy areas in Wyoming! Good luck and keep us posted on your hunt! ILH

Thanks for the pointers. I've been out several times looking around already. Mainly learning the road systems. The heat the last couple weeks has kept the elk bedded down, so I haven't seen many yet, but have seen sign.
