Elk Decoys

Thinking about getting a decoy for archery season.

1. How do you use one? - My thought would be to get a bull to answer move in close. Setup the decoy. And start calling?

2. Are they effective enough to justify the extra weight when being mobile?

3. I had my mind set on the Montana Elk III decoy. Is there a better choice?

I am going to buy the one that is standing butt towards ya, but looking back. I think thats a cool one, either that or just the rump one.

I am going to get the wind and all that right, (as I'm working a bull) then get it set up in a fairly open spot, then sneak ahead and try to get between where I think he'll be coming from and the decoy. If I have a partner, I'll have them move the decoy around if need be. I really think it will take the edge off a suspicious bull, give him the confidence that Not seeing anything does not give him.

I've read an article on the decoys in the past. I can't remember which magazine or when but the guy was talking about the X method (or something like that). If you have another guy with you you want him behind the decoy where he can move side to side depending on where the bull is coming in from. The decoy is at the point where the two lines of the X intersect and you are out in front. The author swore up and down by this method. You might want to get a couple decoys.

I wouldnt buy anything on e-bay .. My son purchased a motorcycle from and individual on e-bay ... sent him 2,000 dollars and hasn't recieved the motorcycle the individual cashed the bank check June 5th .... here it is the end of july and no motorcylce... the guy won't answer his e-mail or phone calls... does anybody know what he can do... e-bay has done nothing for him.

You need to get one! Myself and my friend got one and they work! Just set up like normal with the caller and the decoy behind you and be ready to shoot fast.

I have the original montana decoy and won't go out with out it. Once those bulls lock on to it they forget about everything else. Kinda like if Pamela Anderson was waving you over with "the look" on her face. You forget about everything else. Until the wind changes and you smell the abused stank aroma.

The cow elk III looks like a good choice. I'm working on getting my buddy to buy it. I already have one so it's his turn.

I apologize if I offended anyone with the Pam analogy.

I have heard the X stratagy. I also got the Elk III decoy. Going to scout this weekend July 31 and Aug 1. Also going down Aug 14 & Aug 15. Start hunting Aug 28.

Have a NM hunt 15 tag. I know where some elk are down there on the east side used to be 15B. I want to go look at the west side.
