New Mexico Unit 12 Land Owner

Thinking of buying a Unit 12 Land Owner tag. The tag is considered a "unit wide" tag and not a ranch only. Do any of you have any help to offer before I fork out the cash? Is it even worth the $$$ with it being a unit wide hunt? Any info would be apprecitated. Chris

last year my 4 cousins tagged first day of hunt for cows!

near Red Hill..

so the elk are very scattered...unless u know the area pretty well

I agree with vinni... A few years ago the Dept of G & F issued unlimited tags.. Also, from what I remember I am not sure if there is very much public land..

There are a few elk around but NMG&F are cutting the tags for the unit starting next year due to lower elk numbers than they had thought. Do some research and I am sure you can find a lower priced tag in a better unit. I would wait to the last minute when Landowners are almost willing to give tags away.. Just check the Albuquerque Journals classified ads for the next couple of months..
