didn't draw a big bull tag, but my cow season opens on the 1st of august. should i get one then, or wait till the last day, which is the 28th of february, 2005. what would you do?

I would wait a while tell it cools down. To hot to chase elk and pack one out right now. I think you should just keep taking pictures of those big bulls for all us poor suckers that didn't draw a tag. It's fun chasing those elk in the snow.

Go ahead and hunt, but until the last week, hold out for a "Trophy Cow". Then, if all else fails, take a regular cow on the last day !

somehow, i have a sneaking suspicion i'll be in the hills anyway, whether my tag is filled or not.

Littlefoot, sent you a pm about a week ago, if you're not interested in responding that's fine, just wanna confirm you got it. Would still love to see some pics though.

Waiting stinks, but I would wait for the rut to start. This way I would be able to have a little fun with some bulls while I looked for a cow to parlay.

Good advice from the other responders.
Wait till the rut and have some fun and it is a little cooler in the morning to get your meat out.

Or wait much longer and there will be no bugs and much cooler for keeping the meat and packing.

Come on Gentry this is easy. It's a meat hunt, Take the cow at the end of the prime grazing season in the area you intend on hunting. She will have the maximum amount of fat and be in the best condition for harvest. If you are able to pick and choose take one that just 2 or 3 years old, At that age they should have enough pounds on them to satisfy your needs. As much scouting time as you have(yes I'm jealous) you should be able to pick one out thats been in an area that has the best and sweetest graze. Well thats my thoughts anyway. Keep posting those photos, It keeps me going here while I am stuck at work.

I'd go during the rut, did you get my pm awhile back? Let me know if you are interested in seeing one of those big bulls go down.

Depends on your freezer situation! If it is empty fill it now! personally I would wait for some cooler weather.
