I drew a unit 27 archery bull tag. I was wondering if anyone had information on this unit. More specifically; is it worth being packed into the wilderness area below the rim or just hunting from a "drive in" camp? Any information will help. Thanks in advance.

There are monster bulls in this unit but I wouldnt think you would want to be packed in. There are many areas to camp and if you have the archery tag then you will be chasing the bulls during rut so I would just camp. It is not an easy unit so if you need any help just call Duwane Adams....1-520-385-4995.....he has a couple clients booked for that hunt and will have his camp set up close in unit 1...... Allen Taylor......

I drew the same tag a few years back, I drew a Unit 8 archery
bull tag this year but thats not what your concerned about. e-mail me and I will tell you about our unit 27 hunt.

When you get a chance check out www.dcoutfitters.com on the web. I don't know if you are trying to be guided or attempting a do it yourself hunt but you might check them out. Chris

Just wanted to say thanks for the information. I'm in the process of planning my scouting trips. This will be an unguided hunt, but possibley looking for a wrangler. If anyone knows any good wranglers please let me know. Thanks again.

No, being packed in does bot always help there. Believe it or not some of the biggest bulls during the rut will be within 2 miles of Alpine. Every year there is 350-370 type bulls rutting in and around Williams Valley and Luna Lake/Frisco river. Generally every local with a tag will be chasing those bulls and usually one or two get killed but you can literally drive a truck up to them and load them whole if you are lucky enough to get one. The wilderness areas have just as big and bigger bulls and will probably be less crowded but not near the number of parks and cienagas as you will find on the North end. Good luck.

Sky, You can e-mail me for info on the wilderness area. I'm sorry I can't compare it to the roaded parts of the unit because we got dropped off by a guy with horses and stayed there our whole hunt.
How many points did it take for you to draw the tag?
