Well, I figured I better let things cool off a little on here before making this post. I was fortunate to draw this tag, but before someone decides to hang me, I have to say that I have been trying, and unsuccessful in trying, to obtain this tag for over 10 years, and can pretty much guarantee I'll never draw again in my lifetime. Someone had to get it and this year I got lucky. Plan on scouting early and late September for the Oct. 1 opening. Would appreciate any contacts out their that would be willing to speak with me about general areas, tips, etc... Thanks... Gamekiller

What a great tag!!! But with the added tags in the unit this year with the 10% issue, you will have alot of pressure. E-mail me at [email protected] and I give you all the info I can. I archery hunted 10, in 2000!!

My brother and Dad had that tag last year! There's no elk in there, I'm sorry you got such a horrible tag. lol. For large numbers, hunt the Williams side of the unit.

Gamekiller,

Congrats of drawing the tag. I drew the exact same permit and I'm an Arizona resident! Go figure!!!! Maybe we'll run into each other up there. Good luck, and if I find any 400 class back-up bulls that I don't want to shoot I'll let you know where they are! lol.

Hey Kirk, you and I won't have any competition issues up in Unit 10 this year. I'm more of a 390 class kind of guy. I'll let you know where all the 400's are if you just put me on a couple of 390's.. LOL.. Man, from all the flak flying around about the changes this year it's good to here at least one resident drew, I was starting to think every NR that applied drew the the tag.. Oh well, congrats to you also on the tag. Your welcome to come on over to my camp for a cold one, just don't shoot me cause of my license plates.... Gamekiller

Gamekiller,

You're right, I'd bet that most of the Arizona plates we see will be on the back of AZGFD trucks!!!!!

I'll keep my eye out for you a good 290 bull! Oh, I misread your post. haha

Good luck guys! They were rutting so hard last year it actually made it kind of tough to find a shooter. Why? Because they were fighting so hard that most of the shooter bulls were all busted up. I'd say 75% of the mature bulls had broken tines. My brother ended up shooting a nice bull but it was missing his left G2. My dad's bull was smaller, but all of the points were there(which is why he shot it). Anyways, good luck up there!

Actually, there were 5 residents in the initial draw, out of 50 tags. If all 11 of the aditional tags are nonresidents, it will be 16 nonresidents and 45 residents, or about 26% nonresident.

Well, the early hunt hasn't existed for 10 years, but I guess I'll let you go with a little fib. Hunted there a couple years ago just west and north of Seligman, just on the edge of Aubrey Cliffs. I suggest you spend some time there, you may like what you find.

Nah Jaybob, I would BS you like that. Want I meant was I had been applying for Arizona elk tags for 10 years, and have a hunter ed point. Used to apply for the November tags in this unit and unit 9, and started with early ones when they started giving them out. Didn't they use to have early muzzleloader hunt? I may have my wires crossed; the old brain doesn't function as well as it used to. Thanks for the info though. Were you able to kill one up there?

Those muzzleloader hunts are rotated between units each year. So are most of the early rifle hunts, but 10 has it every year now. That hunt will be tougher than the past with the extra hunters, but should still allow a good opportunity for a bull. We chased and chased and eventually took a 6x6. There was a biggen in there!
