I just got my unit 15 sept12-20 archery elk tag and I need help. Does anybody know a great guide or can I do this myself from public land? I'd use a guide if I have to get into the back country if that is where the trophies are located. I need to keep costs down a bit... but if private land is the only way to go. Is unit 15 crowded with archery hunters? Any help anyone can give will be helpful.

I've been hunting there for the past 6yrs and know it pretty well. There are quite a few hunters, especially for the second hunt. There are also roads everywhere. I don't think there are many places you can consider "remote" there. I have always had opportunities on bulls, big bulls. I only hunted the 15B area so that's all I know. After the first hunt it's almost useless to try to call them in. A cow call used sparingly helps. If you need a guide I can offer my services. I guided my uncle last year on a muzzleloader and had a 7x7 100yds away and missed. My cousin also missed a cow and a 5x5. I have only killed a 300 class 5x5 and have only drew on 350 or better bulls since then. Drop me an email at [email protected]. I'll be in unit 13 for the first hunt.

I would only suggest that you toss the New Mex tag if you're in search of Big Bulls. Sawtooth Tag in Idaho is a much better choice. Quality 250 class brush bulls are everywhere! I'd call Fast Eddie's "Do It Yourself" Outfitters in Pennsylvania to book the trip. I've had tremendous success with him. When you call, tell him you want the "Little Brother Package"! I still can't believe you drew that tag ya lucky bugger.

thanks for the tip.... but the sawtooth bulls are too big for me... I get scared when they come in calling. Only my brothe is MAN enough to hunt those monsters!!!!
