calf meat

My pop's is going to hunt a short range season this year and want's to take a calf elk. Has anyone had the meat from a calf elk? Is it the ##### or just too young to have good flavor?

Calf meat is very tender and (IMO) the best meat that you can eat!

You will kick yourself if you pass up the chance to eat a calf. They are the best. In fact my Wif eand I have two cow blackpowder licenses and we hope to shoot at least one calf with them.

Great stuff and it will make a killer pot of beans too.

i shot a calf last year with my a-7 tag in MT. felt bad because it was a bull until i threw the first hunks of it in the oven, absolutely amazing meat.

Never had calf meat but have had very young whitetail doe. The best meat it was so tender and nice. Enjoy!

My wife tells me every year to go shoot a calf elk and quit shooting for the antlers. The family loves any elk meat but, if I do get a cow permit, I will only shoot a calf, it's the best.
