Calling--Valle Vidal

Anyone do any scouting in the Valle Vidal unit, New Mexico? Did some scouting in late July...saw plenty of elk. Just wondering what type of calling to do in that unit early in the hunt. How far off the road should I hunt? Hoping to kill my first bull this year, not anticipating to hold out for nothing HUGE. Unless otherwise advised by you fellas familiar with the unit...whether to hold out for a big bull. I will be able to hunt 14 days----1st week and Last week. THANKS!!

Well,if your camping at shuree area,look out for USO outfitting camp, the flag will be flying ,they get the big bulls first,anyway the open meadows @ chuckwagon canyon is a good place,& FR 1900 towards the Costilla dam ,walk 1/2 mile,then head south to powerhouse canyon,sit tight ,the elk will be comming from bottom streams....and goood luck !!!!
