I shot this Elk on a fly in hunting trip for moose and elk here in BC Canada. I never got a moose this year(I got one last year) but my hunting partner mamnged too. It was too hot and the animals were only really moving at night when it was cooler. The moose my buddy shot was laying in a shallow lake cooling off. He never shot it the lake but when it ran out of the lake.
My Elk was plain luck, the bull was down drinking from a pool of water when we hiked past him at 200 yards. We never even saw him until the last second. I spotted his white ass and stopped my hunting partner. The Elk was watching us by that time, it then ran up and out of the pool and across the open plain trying to get back to the timber/mountain side. Well by that time I was already leading him as he ran with my 300mag on my bi-pod. I aimed infront of him like I was bird hunting and fired, down he went.
I was shaking!
so far this year I've taken one brown and one black bear and now an elk. What a way to start off the year!
