For the last few year i have been hunting elk with a bow. I mostly have hunted spike only areas near my house. This year i thought i would give the any bull areas a try. I have looked at hunting the north slope area. Thought that might not be my best choice. I started look at the south slope area. At first i thought it might be a great area. BUT everytime we have gone scouting all we see are people and more people and more SHEEP>

Nothing wrong with the most of the poeple part. i am will to hike a bit and and i feel good about my call. i have called many large bulls in every year. But i just cant seam to find elk on the south slope. AM i just not look well enough all i seam to find are people and sheep. I have even been run down the roads for 2-3 mile at a time by sheep dogs.
If anyone has info they would be will to share with me please feel free.

I was also Think about trying the area above Farmington. Around the skyline drive but i have never been up there before don't know what i would be getting into and with the hunt coming up the weekend i don't really want to waste to much time.

Anything would help thanks
good luck to all this hunting season

The skyline drive area inbetween hwy 95 & Farmington is a great stretch for elk; problem is (and a big problem!) its actually a non-hunting area. About 10 yrs ago they made 98% of that land a state park & is heavily posted NO HUNTING ALLOWED. The other 2% is private; sorry for the bad news. In addition once you get above Farmington the road crosses over the WA state line & you are then in idaho. Only about 2 miles of Skyline drive is Washington, & that 2 miles just happens to be private land.

HoytHntr, where the hell are you talking about? I am familiar with Farmington/bountiful area and you didn't describe any of it that I recognize.

I don't know that I would hunt up above Farmington/Bountiful for elk. I have heard that there are some up there but they are very few. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Black Timber,
I was responding to RF's inquiry about the skyline drive area; behind Farmington that stretches to Idaho's hwy 95. As far as I know, there is only one Farmington/Skyline drive; if I am mistaken then please describe what/where you are talking about. Skyline drive is approx 18 miles beginning in Farmington WA & crossing over to Idaho junction hwy 95. That information is correct, along w/the no-hunting provisions in the Park & the private land inbetween the back side of Farmintong & the road that crosses over to Tensed.
