I'm going elk hunting in the October hunt. I'm planning of hunting south of warm springs....just curious if anyone else has had any experience hunting here as I will be coming from Oregon. Thanks - Brian

I hunted Warm Springs a few years ago. I don't plan on going back. It is very steep and very limited access. We were on foot.
We hiked in a good 5 miles and saw nothing. Did not know the area very well just bought a leftover tag. Horses are a must. Know a few guys who go year after year and fill there tags but work there horses very hard to get them out.I guess you would have to do lots of scouting. Sorry not better news but be ready.

You are talking the southern end of the unit? South of warm springs? Yes they are in there. Hunted in there with a friend in his holes. Seen elk every time up. Carry a bear tag as there are alot in there. All over unit 48. We archery hunted up in there. Great unit. I also bait bears in there.
Good luck.

Hey Schooner. If you are not from Idaho and buy a NR deer tag you can use it for deer bear or Mt Lion. You can shoot 1 of them. I would buy a Deer tag. There are some big ones in there. I have seen some very nice ones this spring while baiting. Only thing is it is a open hunt for deer. Good luck.

Thanks supersider34. I'm trying to decide on the deer tag. I'm up in the air about it because I drew a controlled hunt for 11a. Anyways....I sure hope to see some elk! Can't wait to check it out myself! My buddy is going to check out a place off of deer creek for me tomorrow, as he lives a lot closer! Brian
