I drew a 5B North cow archery tag. I posted here before and have since scouted the area. I have seen very few elk. My question is will they begin to move around more once they start getting pressured. The area I have scouted looks great but very little sign should I just be patient? Thank you for any advice before hand.

NUBOW, THATS A GOOD UNIT YOUR IN, BUT I WOULD NOT BE PATIENT. I WOULD GET OUT INTO OTHER AREAS, AND SCOUT FOR POCKETS OF ANIMALS. GET YOURSELF A PLAN A,B,C, & D. WATER SOURCES SHOULD BE A FOCAL POINT, MOVE AROUND. TAKE ER EASY, YD.

remember 90/10 rule.. in almost all things... 90 percent of the game is in 10 percent of the area. move around until you are in the 10 percent. spend 90 percent of your time away from your truck and away from roads, and you will be nearer the 10 %. Elk will favor at least half mile from a road, or one ridge or both.

5B turns out a lot of elk steaks each year. They will move around as season goes on.. mostly away from disturbance and away from roads and away from people... but they are always somewhere...

I have a 5BN archery bull tag and just got home last night from a scouting trip. Yes the elk will be pressured from opening weekend! You will see hundreds of elk herd up on the wide open Anderson Mesa. It cools down after the first weekend. The bugleing has started! Heard a few. I was surprised how dry it is after the recent monsoons. Water is key. All of the water holes and shallow lakes that we were camped by are dry!! Find isolated water and you will find elk. Ed F

BOWUNTR,

Talked to you a few weeks ago. I also have a 5B north tag. See any good bulls on your trip?

Good bulls, yes. No monsters though. Full moon and hot, tough conditions to find the big boys, but they are there. I am optomistic and confident. I have a deer/antelope hunt this week in Wy and then I'm heading to Az. I cannot sleep. Ed F

Since some of you have been up in 5B north recently I thought I would ask. My daughter was fortunate enough to draw one of the five 5B antelope tags this year. While you have been scouting for elk have you noticed any antelope, especially bigger ones? We are going up saturday and sunday to check things out but I thought I would ask first. I am considering writing an article for a magazine about her very first big game hunt as she is very excited about it. I have been taking some notes already and have taken some pictures of her at the range sighting in her 22-250. I loaded some 70 grain bullets for her and she can shoot 5-6 inch groups at 200 yards. I think this is pretty good considering she is only ten and weighs about 63 lbs.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yes!! I got video of an 80" lope. They are few and far between in the elk country. I would try Anderson Mesa. Good luck. Ed F
