I bugled in my first bull already. THats the second year in a row that I had one come in during August. I wasn't out bugling either. I was scouting and he bugled. Thats no hunter, so grabbed my gear and went to work. I could have stuck an arrow in the boiler room without even using my bow.

Any size to him? I'm jealous. I drove through that country today and kinda missed it, but not that much!!!

I also saw an article in the paper in Eburg with a picture of a white bull that was photoed up in Cle Elum. ONe of three I guess. Pretty cool.

I'm at my dads right now Doug, tommorrow morn I'm gonna take my bow and look for whities........in your moose area!! heehehe, thought that would make you jealous!

You dog, the season is like 6 hours away, and I'm here at work taking care of drunks. Ah well, my times coming. the faster you help me find that big bull, the faster we can get those mulies bagged. It was about a 250 bull. I'd like to find something a little bigger for Rose, but since its her first elk, it might be hard to keep her from pullin' the trigger. He was hot. We are going to get slammed with the heat again this week, so that should shut'em back down. How are the woods there? I've been watching the weather reports, and looks like it has rained some.

Bone, whens your moose hunt. I watched a herd of elk behind my house up on the hill side couple days ago.
I sure hope it cools down again, that weather last week was nice.

Had nothing talking where I went today on the opener. Saw a ton of sign though. Fresh stuff. So will be going every weekend till I get mine.
Good luck and hunt safe.

No bulls today Doug, did see a momma and two calves though, plus some whitey does and muley does.

Tonight I paralleled a decent whitey for 400 yards, he was out about 70 yards and not much cover between us. Got too dark too fast. Oh well, lots of season left!!

The area I was in this morn looked good, but the vast majority of it was ultra thick nasty. If they were grunting good it would be alright, but very few clearcuts and no natural openings to spot them in.

Tell ya more later.

Can't wait to hear more from you. How many days do you get in the neighborhood. Are you going to be there Friday, I'll hook up with you and say Hi. I think Rose and I will be in around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I'm dropping the kids off in Ephrata at 9:30. I wasnted much earlier, but couldn't get Roses' mom out of bed to make the exchange. I hope to be up in the woods for the evening. Tough luck on the whitie, but you've got lots of time. For god sakes don't take any weiners. We have big mulies to bag yet.

Kirkl: Cool about the elk. I didn't think any would be inthere this time of year. I'm off this weekend for the first hunt of the season. Mostly just road hunting the area to get a grasp on it. Rose is goin', and she loves to find great huntin' camps, so thats mostly our goal. If I see a booner, I'll guess I'll have to shoot it. ; )
Did that fire mess up your sheep hunt at all. Those guys were dinkin' around up there. They were so lucky we didnt' have any real wind. Thats the least amount of wind I've seen down here, and they still weren't managing it very well. I loved that cooler weather. I'm ready. I have Rose in Elk camp/boot camp. I have her shooting everyday, gettin' in shape, etc.

Cool. hope she gets a big one. Naw the fire didnt get any of that area. it started north of mud lake, we drove buy it this weekend and it doesnt look at bad as I though it would, the trees were real thick in there, mostly sage. gonna go grouse hunting this weekend and look for some sheep.

Can you buy a over the counter deer tag where your going in Idaho.

We were scouting in the Packwood area a couple of days ago and they were bugling up there. In fact, my cousin drove up to the next ridge and spotted a cow that backed up to a nice 6x5 bull and let him pour the coal to her! It,s a little early for that! There is nice 5x5 by my place that is bugling up a storm. I sleep with my window open and the bastard woke me up 2 nights this week at 3-4:00 am. I have to go out tonight and tie him up to a tree so the deer hunters wont run him out before the opener on the 8th! I will feed him up with apples, grain and alfalfa to get some more meat on his bones. Haahaaaa..

Cool Eric. Thats mountain music at its finest. Its definaltely early this year. I wonder if they know something we don't, like we might have to get the snow shovels out this year.

Over the counter tags: Deer yes, if they haven't met their quota, bear yes, and elk I'm not sure. I think that quota fills up faster than all of the rest for elk. I have a deer tag, and I might possibly get a bear tag. It will depend on how many I see this weekend.
