Sat opens the archery season in Colo
and I was with 3 archers from Penn and
Ohio. Saw about 1600 head in one basin
at 13000 feet in SW part of state.Bulls
indifferent to rut yet. One bull 315 class
was heading a group of 200 cut 8 bugles
and no answers. One group of 60 bulls
was all together and not paying any attention
to the cows. All rubbed but the 4 point bulls
still mostly white. No wallowing all bulls
clean.Very dry this year rainfall way below
normal this summer. The big bulls should be
moving in 7-10 days and start breaking up
this bunch.Going back tomorrow and hope the
rut picks up.

Thanks for the report. nothing going on too exciting west of Fort Collins. I saw 2 bulls saturday but they did not respond to any calling. good luck.

rocketman - yesterday I spoke with a young man that has an ATV rental business west of Alamosa and east of Creede , and I guess he had a customer say that " the rut is early this year , they're bugling allready " maybe he was refering to a younger bull he heard and now the " rut has started " ( in his eyes ) I know you spend a lot of time out in the mountains , and I sure do appreciate ,and respect, all your advice.. thanx for posting and keep it comin ! ...

1600 IN ONE BASIN???

THATS WHERE I WANT TO HUNT!!!

PLEASE SEND EXACT GPS COORDINATES!!!

THAT SOUNDS GOOD ENOUGH FOR A FLY OVER!!!HE,HE!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WANTING TO SEE 1600 IN ONE PILE!!!

the 315 bull is still running a harem of
200 and now is at 13300 feet. Staying up all day
away from the main bunch. Still not much
bugles all still clean and the bulls still
staying together. Still very dry, monsoon may be
over.2 new bulls over 300 have moved in and
may start a harem. At least one more week
before it gets very serious.Nobody hunting
them right now so they may get more active.
The big herd is now over 1200 and staying
together.Going back tomorrow
