Well just got back from a 7 day hunt in the Ochoco's. Woke up Saturday moring to about 150-175 head of elk just outside of camp!!! Hunted them hard, with one killed out of 6 in our party. I got a shot a rag horn at 30 yards. Hit a branch about 25 yards out. In the heard there must have 40 bulls, all spikes but just a couple branched bulls. The rut hasn't started yet. Will be going back towards the end of the season. Any luck enyone? Take care...

I been in the Ochocos all week and have not seen anything.very little sign.I know there not hot yet so I was just trying to get my buck and from the looks of it that's gonna be tough.sounds like you had a great hunt.atleast your getting some action.

What part are you huntin in Zilla? I only saw two decent bucks, about 200 yards off. I was in the spanish peak area one day and boy oh boy the elk were thick. It's hard to hunt them when there all bunched up together. The rut sure makes a difference when trying to kill something!!! Good luck!

Sounds like the same herd I have been watching for the last couple of weeks...Want to trade some info...Couple of the bulls started a couple of weeks ago..

I have been hunting over by Hamilton butte.I only know of 1 bull from this morning up there and he was moving when I saw him,5 or 6 point could not really tell.according to the numbers they say the deer are better then last year.I dont think there numbers are right.
