Moseley and Mike and i went down to hog park bowhunting over the weekend.
the elk would only answer with a short bugle and wouldn't come to the calls.
Moseley had one shot at a nice bull, i shot at one elk so we had our chance.
I cant wait tell they fire up hope i can get back in time for another try.

cmiddleton,

I was also hunting the Hog PArk area this past weekend. What area were you in? I was in the Green Mountain area. I heard some distant bugles, which could have been other hunters. I saw about 20 cows, a spike and a 3x3, but no shooters. I did have one cow come into about 20 yards to my Hoochie Mama cow call. I also saw a nice 4x5 muley but I only got within about 80 yards of him before I must have spooked him. Saturday was miserable as it rained all day. There sure was alot of people in the mountains this weekend, didn't make it all the way down to Hog Park but I bet the lake was packed. Going back up this weekend and hopefully the rut will be going a little better.

They are not going to fire up in this area until the last 2 weeks in September if it is like it has been the last few years. If you want some input on a good area I will give some up. I finally drew a good area and killed a 315 bull this weekend so I am willing to give up a little info on the hog park area. Pictures will be coming soon of my bull.

Wyobowhunt,

Any information of the Hog Park area would be great. I've never hunted the area, although I live in Rawlins. My cousin from Illinois drew a cow tag and will be here on tthe 17th for out week long hunting trip. I've always hunted area 21 to the west and have done very well the last couple of years, but will be hunting area 14 this year since that was the only tag ny cousin drew. Lots of wilderness in the area so I bet it holds some good bulls. Like I said before, we are hunting the Green Mountain area to the north of Hog Park. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tried to send personal message but mail inactive. Robison creek coming off hog park is really good. Have killed a couple in this area. You should start seeing a lot more action around the 17th. Last year this area was nuts around the 20th. Last year there were 5-6 wallows up there. I will look at my map tonight and see where else I seen most of my elk over there. Try to keep details from past trips.
Hope this helps.

We hunt cascade creek and black hall mountan, 6 mile gets hot during the rut but gets hunted hard.
if you dont know the area be carefull of billy creek they lose hunters right and left in there. I have found a few of them over on cascade creek they end up crossing over and getting lost
don't know how they get lost though down hill to the river or up hill to the main road.
uphill from the road is good but i have never hunted up there never needed to we find them right next to camp moseley shot at a 7x7 about 400 yards from camp last weekend.
they loged more out at 6 mile road sence they last time i was there in the rut so i'm not sure of it.

When you refer to 6 mile, where's that? Is that the road up green mountain? as I know the turn off is about six miles from the highway? Isn't Cascade creek in the wilderness? We will be hunting the area September 17th through September 26th. I know a buddy of mine hunts Blackhall Mountain and got a nice 5x5 with his rifle last year. I think if we don't do no good in our area, we may check out Blackhall or further down towards Hog Park.

oh, the joys of trying to decifer someone elses names for hunting spots, hehe. while on that topic, theres a bull in the beaver hole that might go 375. absolute pig for the madres. i've seen him 2 weekends in a row while scouting. and i've a got a fricken cow tag due to some time constraints this year.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-04 AT 05:00AM (MST)[p]six mile is the closed road at mile marker 6 on the gravel road between blackhall mountan road and hog park lake.
where is the beaver hole? the area between six mile and the dead end road at cascaide creek we call the big hole.
i had to debone a deer to get it out of there with horses in 01
my brother was not happy with me over that one.
some of it is below the dead end road i'm a wyo native so i wont let that slow me down.
BEWARE OF BILLY CREEK! i'd like to hunt this year without helicopters buzzing the tops of the trees.
not that anyone here would get lost, just a parsel confussed for a month or two.
there is a mt lion working rhe area at the end of the dead end road. I might try to call him if the quota isn't full by the time i get back there.

if you're coming up the black hall rd, the last couple miles before the road splits to go up to the lookout, or over to hog park, off to the left (opposite billie creek) is the beaver hole. nice country. i second the billie creek problem. i wont even let my passengers look down there when we drive along the top..
