I will be traveling up north to these units for 10 days in search of a trophy. Wondering if anyone knows anything about the area and the deer hunting there. Do we need four wheelers? I've heard that the mud is bad. Any tips are appreciated.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-09-07 AT 01:49PM (MST)[p]Good luck finding much in the way of trophies. Unless you luck into them. Tons and tons of small 3x3's and forkies.

Mud has not been an issue lately because it is DRY out in that country.

I spend almost all my time in either one of those districts and while there is alot of deer there is also a lot of hunters and the best stuff is private and usually no access.

If you catch the rut right you can find some big boys out chasing does but I would consider any 22 to 24 inch 4x4 to be a shooter in that country. Every year some bigger ones are taken but it is not the norm.

Thanks for the info. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but definetly good to know. I probably won't pass on a 24 inch buck but anything much smaller will be tough for me to shoot. Anyway appreciate it.
