Here is a cow I took opening morning at 7am. We were both cow talking back and forth but couldn't see each other and she couldn't take it! She walked right in and hung up behind a tree and my arm started to get tired from holding for so long. She did one last mew and stuck her head out from behind the tree then her neck and then her shoulder! I put my 40 right on the spot and let her fly. She reacted to the shot and dropped and angled towards the sound of the string and it hit her just above the shoulder and angled down through her. Since the shot was high there wasn't a blood trail and my stomach knotted up. I started thinking I hit her shoulder blade but it made a "thunk" sound more then it made a "wack". After following her tracks I finally found her laying between two trees! She is probably a couple years old and not the biggest but that's ok I still got her!

Good job Steve, any critter with a bow is an accomplishment. Your first will always be remembered. I'll bet it is reall tender too.

Great job!! I'm pretty sure this is a calf and just looking at the "anatomy" of the picture, was it a bull calf? Doesn't matter, awesome accomplishment!!! Congrats!

It looks to be a calf/yearling. If it doesn't have "ivories" then it is less than two years old.

Good job on the hunt!

That's about the best tasting elk you will have there! Great job and enjoy the steaks!
