My Dad got his bull on the morning of the 18th. I was able to call it in to 20 yards for an easy shot and watch the whole thing. It was my Dad's first 6x6 and he was/is stoked. He nailed both lungs and the bull went about 40 yards before piling up.
I have spent a lot of time chasing elk and have never witnessed an elk hunt like this years. I called in more mature bulls this past week than almost all my past experiences combined. The bulls were going nuts both mornings and evenings. Money well spent flying back into town to help my Dad on his hunt.
I spent the last week trying to help fill my buddies tag. He is holding out for a big one because he has shot numerous small bulls in the past. So far he has not gotten the right shot at the right bull. Lots of smaller bulls that we have passed on. I had a 340ish bull about step on me yesterday evening as I crawled into a cedar tree while calling, but my friend was not set up with a clear lane to shoot.
