Had a great elk hunt this weekend, didn't bring one home, but had a blast, saw lots of game! Here's some of what I saw:

Pushed these elk up out of a basin, just couldn't catch up or get in front!!

Good Luck All! I'll be pounding the trails until the end or tags are notched!

hs.....very sweet pics...do you have a bull tag? get back at it, and keep us informed...thanks

That first picture is pretty amazing - all those elk skylined like that. Very cool. Thanks for posting, and good luck filling that tag!

AWESOME PICTURES!!!!!!
BUT I HAVE ONE QUESTION - ARE THE ELK NOT RUTTING THERE???
I WOULD THINK THERE WOULD ONLY BE 1 MAYBE 2 BULLS AROUND???

I've never cried foul on this forum yet and I'm not the type to start trouble, heck it's hardly worth it, but those pictures, though very nice, have photo shop written all over them. Maybe my good eye is foggn' up tonight but I have have to call it as I see it. Several beautiful pictures beautifully put together. Just my humble, worthless opinion. If I'm wrong let me know so I can have my good eye checked out on Monday. Thx

Good job on the photo shop and that top one looks the most genuine and had me guessing. Thanks for letting me know so I don't have to go see the eye doctor this week. lol :)

I'm not sure who's being more sarcastic, me or you, but I certainly was. Sorry. Most all my photos see a little photoshop for some brightness/contrast/gamma work, but I dont "create" photos very often, and when I do I let folks know. Those are all real. What parts look fake?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-04 AT 03:12PM (MST)[p]looks like fun ernie!

now go out and bring one home (do i sound like your wife?) ;-)

Those are great photos Earnie.

Your masking is just a little too sharp. It defines the different selections that you'd adjusted a bit too "firmly".

The bull moose needs to be a bit "duller" than the cow and then it will look like he is behind her as was the case.

As far as multiple bulls w/ cows is concerned. I heard 25 bulls around a dozen cows last weekend. I saw 5 bulls busting each other trying to get the cows. Even think I saw one bull nock another off a cow in the middle of the action. They were absolutely going crazy the whole time I was in the area. It was hard to keep track of what was going on.

I got in the middle of them at one point in the early am. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and seeing. Truly one of the most incredible sights and sounds I've ever had in the woods. Multiple bulls do hang with the cows right next to each other some times.

I think the grand daddy bulls were tuckered out and up glunking from their beds while all this was going on. At this point in the season those 7 - 10 year old bulls around here just can't hang with the young guns for the whole season. Especially for the left overs that are remaining.

Cheers,
Pete

Thats too techy for me man, what are you saying??

SOunds like fun, your hunt!

Good Luck All,

Ernie

I'm Trying Aaron!!!

I think he is saying your adjustments make them look put together. Doing a little too much work with the animals so they don't look natural in the picture. Thats what I was saying. I would just post the originals without the work or enhancement. All natural baby...the only way to go. Like I said before, nice pics and I'm glad you had fun on your hunt. If you can I would like to see the photos without the touchups.

What I tried to say is that there is virtually no enhancement. I I think the moose one is totally original, the silhouette one is very very close to original, the one with me and the landscape was lightened and contrasted a bit.

If I get time I"ll get the orig's up so you can see.

Have a good hunt all!

hehehe, too funny. These pictures have to be extremely edited. How do I know?

That guy guy on the ridge wearing camo and a backpack is well known is these parts. The original photo was Hornseeker on a bright red quad standing up as he bugled into that basin, he still had one hand on the throttle and was gassing it up the ridge as he bugled. He was also wearing a bright PINK leotard, you can see that the camo is just "too crisp", so obviously the pink leotard was cropped out and replaced with camo. Nice try HS.

p.s. those animals silhouetted on the ridge were originally a herd of whitetails, they almost look like elk now. Amazing.

RD,

thanks for the heads up, now i can see the pink frill of the leotard sticking out from underneath ernie's shirt, AND i can see the heat of the fumes of the atv exhaust caused wavy lines in the air behind him...and those whiteys all touched-up like that sure looked like elk to me unitl i looked close and started to see the basket-shaped outline of their racks.

if it wasn't for you pointing these things out i wouldn't have noticed!

Those photos are awesome! The moose picture looks perfect.

Is that Ennis lake in the lower photo?

I cannot believe the level of detective work that is going on here!! You guys are phenomenal.

The one thing you didn't pick up on was that the bull moose was actually a trophy sized chipmunk before I manipulated the photo, the cow was actually a cow moose, but she was facing the other way when I took the pic.

Thats not Ennis lake, its not even a real lake, I just created for backdrops sake.

Ill try and dig up some originals.
