Well I have been a viewer of this site for a while so I decided to join. Like many of you I dedicate most of my time to chasing big bulls and big bucks as well as sheds so anyway here is a link to a 400 class bull. I dont have the whole story yet but it is RUMORED to be shot near the Oregon/Washington border on the washington side near the Walla walla unit but this is not 100%. When I find out I will be sure to let you know. The other rumor says it was shot from the Mt. emily unit which is in Oregon. Both units are very close so I will let you all know

Here are some facts:

It is the east side auction permit holder who is a Washington resident and a dedicated conservationist. The gentleman on the left is a local who contacted the guide & hunter about this bull and was integral to the hunt.

The hunter told me it grossed 401 and he is thrilled to death with the bull. As I was going through the link provided there were several comments about the lack of excitement seen in the expressions. I tagged along on a hunt of his in Oregon 3 years ago when he took a California Bighorn that offically netted around 181 (2nd largest ever taken in the state) and all of the pictures I have of him have the same expression. He is excited but must get stage fright when the cameras come out!

Crazy how the brow tines and seconds go straight up. Definite hog, that's for sure.

Cheers,
Pete

Hey traks...I'm "sliverpicker", the guy who posted it on ifish.

ramslam...we heard about a 401 bull when we were hunting last month in the Walla Walla in Oregon. Vic Coggins stopped at camp one afternoon and mentioned something about a big bull being taken just across the border. When I received the pic a week or two ago it mentioned something about grossing 416.

There's also a rumor about a 390 bull being shot in northeast Oregon by a bowhunter, but nothing more then rumors at this point.

We saw some great bulls in the Walla Walla hunt, the best would be a 380 class 6x6. My hunting partner killed a 6x7 that scores 357 gross and 340 net, and only has a 36" spread. Here's a pic of his bull from northeast Oregon.

They must be really limiting permits for that area these days. Those bulls are just hogs. It's great to see such impressive animals, but I hope it doesn't take you 20 years like it's taking here in Utah to draw one of those permits.

I'm on 19 years and am still waiting for limited entry permit. Maybe next year :)

Congrats to your buddy,

Pete

c3...it took 7 years to draw our tags for Northeast Oregon. We've been thinking about applying for Utah or Arizona, what state do you think has the best odds for drawing a non-resident elk tag in the near future?

Here's a link for the story and pic of another Oregon bull. It scores 388 P&Y and might be the new Oregon record bow kill.

I would just apply for both each year and assume that your odds of drawing both the same year are about 1 in 20,000 or so :)

Utah might have a few more NR archery permits next year as some of the units will probably see higher permit numbers thus getting them over the 10 minimum to have a NR permit.

If you go to http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/hunting/biggame.html you should be able to find some odds reports for the last few years. There is also a detailed report of each unit published each year that shows how many people drew each unit for each bonus point catagory. The 2004 version of this one isn't out yet, but it should show how many points people had and what they drew.

Are there any NR archery permits for that Wallowa County unit, and might you have a web link for Oregons fish and game department?

Cheers,
Pete

I think I heard they gave out 1 permit to a non-resident in the Walla Walla unit, there were 20 total. They might have had 1 permit for the Wenaha also, but there's only 10 branch bull permits for that unit. The Wenaha unit is within Wallowa County, but I don't know what unit the bull in the link was taken from???

Here's the ODFW link. http://www.dfw.state.or.us/

Thanks for the link. I'll have to check out what it takes to apply.

Cheers,
Pete

Well some people might get pissed for me posting this but the biggest bulls in Oregon are coming from the Mt. Emily unit, Walla walla, and Wenaha unit. These three have produced the largest bulls over the last few years and with limited entry it should just get better, your odds of killing a 350+ bull are very, very good. This is for you out of state hunters!

Lets get some info on that 390 Bull shot in Northeast Oregon. I heard rumor that there was a whopper shot in the Mt.Emily unit but i'm not sure if the 390 Bull is the same one or not.I tend to agree with Traks about the Mt Emily unit and the units on the Oregon/Washington border.

I live in wallowa county, and I know Mark Moncrief, so I do know a bit about this bull. I dont know for a fact, but based on where mark normally hunts, and where his guide permits are, this bull was taken in the minam unit. Which definetly has some good bulls. Last year we killed a 350 net 8X8 bull in this unit.
