We're heading over to Montana ove Thanksgiving to chase mulies around the Broadus area. If we get time we might run down around Billingd or Bozeman for elk. Any thoughts about late elk in Montana. My hunting buddy works with a guy that has a big ranch near billings and he says we are guarranteed a cow there. (that's all that's open) Kinda hoping to try for a bull before we go to his place. I won't cry either way though. elk stew is better than tag stew.

Thanks
Kris

Kris,

Double check the regs for the are you'll be hunting in. I did a cursoiry review of the districts near Billings and unless you drew a permit it is antlerless only. Good eats though.

Godd luck

Depends on weather. It hasn't been to condusive to elk hunting, but they are taking a few around the Bozeman area. There isn't much snow in the mountains, but from the reports that I've been getting and reading, there havn't been nearly as many hunters around this year either. I would concentrate on one or the other, trying to take both a deer and and elk can turn into a marathon in a hurry and you may just come home empty handed... Best of luck to ya.
