Well I just got done looking at my sportsmans application fees and i was surprised to see that Utah has once again decided to raise the price on Deer and Elk Tags to compete with nevada, arizona, and New mexico as a premier area to hunt deer and elk.

I am just wondering how all of ya feel about paying 53 dollars for a deer tag next year and 280 dollars for a LE elk hunt now. I am wondering if they raised the general bull tag prices too. These prices listed above reflect what us as utah residents pay i believe that the NR tags now are 1000 for elk not sure for deer. I know i wont be putting in for utah this year so maybe Idaho or Montana will hold some promise for me in getting my big bull.

Just my two cents

I'm just glad I bought a lifetime when I had the chance. It has already paid for itself. Of course that does nothing for the elk tags.

So wait a general rifle tag went from 35$ to 53$ ? That is bs .

Last year they voted to raise the fees on LE elk useing the reason that Utahs LE elk hunting is "as good or better than anywhere else". Now that they have raised the fees, they are talking about lowering the age class objectives on the LE units to "provide more hunting opertunitys" but this will result in fewer really big bulls. Sounds like they just want more money, and don't really care about the hunters.

JUST SEND ME THE LE ELK TAG AND I'LL GLADLY PAY THE HIGHER FEE!!!

NO,I DON'T NECCESSARILY AGREE WITH PRICES GOING UP,MY WAGES DIDN'T RAISE THIS YEAR BUT EVERYTHING ELSE DID!!!

SEND ME THE TAG AND I'LL CONSIDER IT A ONCE IN A LIFETIME TAG,I WON'T TRY AND DRAW IT ANYMORE,THIS WILL ENHANCE ktc'S ODDS DRASTICALLY,I PROMISE I ONLY WANT ONE LE ELK TAG IN MY LIFE AND WOULD PREFER IT WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS,AFTER TWO YEARS THERE MIGHT BE CHANGES IN THE LE UNITS ME & ktc AIN'T GONNA LIKE!!!

HELL YA IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY,JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS LIFE!!!

I DON'T MIND PAYING A PREMIUM PRICE FOR A PREMIUM HUNT BUT WHEN THE AGE CLASS IS LOWERED TO 3-4 YEAR OLD CLASS BULL THEY (DWR) CAN KISS MY TAIL!!!

REMEMBER: LE UNITS WERE NEVER SET UP FOR THE AVERAGE JOE THAT JUST WANTS TO KILL ANY BULL,THEY WERE SET UP FOR PEOPLE LIKE ktc & ME & OTHERS WANTING A CHANCE AT A 350"+ BULL RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RUT!!!

THE ONLY bobcat HOPING ONCE AGAIN A FOR A CHANGE OF LUCK,OH HELL,JUST SEND ME ANOTHER BONUS POINT I'M ALMOST USED TO IT!!!

The DWR is severly underfunded by our state legislature. Think about it. If there's 100,000 of us who hunt, and we put down an average of $50.00 each for licenses that's 5 million dollars. I work for a small company of about 100 employees and it takes about 15M a year for us to meet expenses. The realyity is our fee's just don't go too far. I hate to pay a lot too, but the truth is, we really don't pay anywhere near the total cost.

A few facts:
The tag fee's you're referring to are the price the DWR will collect from the successful sportsman's tag applicants. $53 is the limited entry buck deer price, and $280 is the limited entry bull elk price in 2005. The general deer fees are not $53. If you don't like the $100 increase in the limited entry bull permit fees for 2005, contact your state senator or state represantative, they are the one's that raised the elk fees due to the belief that Utah has the best quality elk in the west. The legislature set's permit fee prices not the DWR. I'd say $53 or $280 bucks is a steal for a 4 month hunt statewide??????????

Maybe Huntsman will appoint someone in there who will run the DWR like a game management entity instead of a cash crop. We can only hope...and yeah...it's all about the benjamins for sure.

the $280 dollars you are going to pay for an elk hunt will entitle you to one of a nine day rifle or muzzleloader season or a three week archery season. if you want to put in for the "premium tag" that will let you hunt all of the seasons it will be $508 dollars. and that is a resident price! we are getting screwed big time.

I have never been one to say it is all about money. I just pay what they want, kind of like buying gas. I can see the argument both ways about excessive fees or if ya want to play ya gotta pay.

What pisses me off is the "premium elk" thing and the $500 tag. $280 ok, too high but ok, but $500 for something "special?" People have complained about added opportunity. This "premium special elk hunt" is stupid. It goes against any rational thought about added opportunity. Why they came up with this suggestion I will never know. It is a decrease in opportunity because most don't hunt with 3 weapons, let alone proficient with all 3, and many just can't plain and simply afford it. Also, they have taken tags away from the average general hunting public and added them into a special grouping of people and permits. More opportunity they cry! Draw a Any Weapon tag and use what you want. "Premium Elk" my ass.

$500 for a RESIDENT elk tag? It would be cheaper to just hunt without the tag and pay the fine IF you get caught.
