My 16 yr old son and I have cow tags for the SW desert. Thursday and friday before the hunt started I scouted and saw a few cows on thursday and alot on friday. Friday afternoon I returned to town and drove out early sat. morning with my son and my Dad. We hunted all day sat. and did not see a single cow or hear a single shot fired. On the way out sat. morning of the opener we were on the pine valley road behind a white dodge that was shining a spotlight on the re-seedings as they drove through. My son thinks that many other hunters must have spotlighted the night before and scared the elk into the trees. We have done alot of walking in the trees in likely areas and have yet to see an elk. We just got back from two more days of hunting. We have hunted mostly on the east side of the Indian peak range from culver spring on the south to cougar spar pass on the north. With a son in New Zealand on a mission we could really use the meat. This hunt ends on Dec. 5th. Any help or ideas on where to look would be very appreciated.

Good luck on the hunt - I wish I knew of a spot for ya. I just finished hunting a cow on the Dutton and we saw few - but got close to a pig of a bull though! Ended up getting one on the last day. 7 days invested - three trips. Definitly no cakewalk.
