I received an e-mail with pictures of this Bull and after looking over the forwards etc., looks like there is a ranch in West North Dakota that has this Bull on it that they would like to sell for $75,000.00. It is suppose to be around 502-3/8's and would place it about 3rd in World, what do you think??

Is that a Tag in its ear in the 2nd pict? If so its a farmed elk... and if you've been following the breeding circuits of the elk farmers, 500+ bulls are becomming more and more common. Heck in the January Denver Livestock auction they sell yearlings that sprout full 6pt racks.

As for the bull hes a monster for sure... but no, not worth $75K for a bull with a tag in his ear.

I just looked at the other 3 pictures that were included, and could not see anything from the right side. It is either a tag or a split ear, but without a closer view it's anyones guess. I never even looked at that, just the rack.

That's insane headgear!

Well if their selling it for 75K, obviously it's a farmed elk....therefore it's obviously a tag in it's ear. Somebody will buy him and he will produce lots of 400 class bulls for many rich guys to come. I bet from the business aspect of it, it's probably a pretty good investment...long term.

So whats the deal? you pay 75K and then they turn it loose for you to shoot? or is this a stud bull so to speak which you bring home and turn loose and hope he breeds ?

That is a gorgeous bull!!! I've been looking at all 3 pics for a while and I can't see that bull going anywhere near 500". Don't get me wrong I think he's a toad but I think he'd go more in the 430-440" range. His beams look rather short, his mass isn't overly huge and his spread is probably only in the 36-38" range. I've been fooled before but I can't see being off 3-4" per point by my best guesstimations. What do you guys think he'd really score?

Josh

I'm thinking about 450 from what can be seen...unless there is something that is really bigger than the photo shows, which is possible. Lot of bone there though!!!

Somebody will cough up the $75K pocket change and whack him!!!

A bad day hunting is better than a Good Day at Work!!

I know of big bulls over 500 never go under 100,000 so if he is going for 75k that is a deal. He doesn't look like a 500 inch bull though. If anyone knows who would pay for a 500 inch bull 100k and up I have the spot.

theirs a GPS BEACON embedded
on their somewhere for sure(lol)
the shed alone must be worth
big money! what do they inject
into farmed elk?

I would like to have those bones! I dont think they go 500 either, but who the ##### cares, he's a monster.

If somone shot that bull he could probably get more than that for those horns.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-01-04 AT 02:52PM (MST)[p]It is obviously on an elk ranch and yes big bulls do sell for lots as that is what elk ranchers want is the genes this bull has to produce many other big antlered bulls as that is where they make their money (off velvet and horns). I've seen bulls go for as much as $125k in the world of elk ranching! that is why I'm not an elk rancher!!!!

Let's see, for the price of that Bull I could get; Moose $10k, Dahl Sheep $10k, Grizzly $10k, Caribou $5K, Mule Deer $5k, Whitey $5k, Goat $5k, Cougar $5k, and still have change left over to go to Africa for another bunch of critters. Let one of the rich Govenor tag guys go land their copter in the adjacent field, whack him, and remove his ear tag before photos.

Beautiful bull, but the thought of being able to pay the $, then whack him on the farm makes my stomach turn, I'd rather take a spike that I had to work hard for than kill this bull and brag about my "trophy". That being said he's got quite the rack.

I couldn't have said it better myself ridgerunner.
I don't know what I'd dream of more........having that kind of money, or shooting a bull like that. It would be a real b!tch either way!

What a gorgeous animal. However, all the tea in china couldn't persuade me to shoot that animal. What a joke. Some fat cat from back east who comes out in his jet, shoots the bull, takes lots of pictures, and goes home to brag to everyone how he braved the wilds of the west and was able to take this fine trophy. What a bunch of crap. I think Ridgerunner said it best, I would rather shoot a damn spike that I hunted and took under fair chase conditions.

There is an elk ranch like this not to far from where I grew up and every fall all of his big bulls would be turned out to the river bottoms one by one, and shot by some a**hole. The damn things are like domesticated livestock. They come to feed trucks for hell sakes.

I would venture to guess that if a lot of us had quite a bit of money that we would be hunting sometimes on ranches. I really can't see the difference of hunting on private property for big bull elk than on some ranches that have more acreage. You can shoot these bulls from 400 500 yards away and more! What is fair chase about that. I went to a ranch once and it is the same rush pulling the trigger as it is out in open country. I have hunted private before and it is the same thing on knowing the animals are there and they are not spooked.

Please don't misread my comments. I hunt on private ground all the time. However, the distinction comes when you are pursuing game that was raised behind ten foot fences. When I hunt private ground I am still hunting free ranging WILD animals that come and go as they please. I don't think that there is one thing sporting about shooting animals that live inside large compounds.

That is simply my opinion. No offense to any of you lazy A's that like to hunt inside a big fence. :)

NBJB...I'd rather just buy those horns at a store if I was rich than go to some high fence and pretend like I was hunting. I'd much rather just buy his sheds than shoot him.....Now, put him in the middle of the Beaverhead National Forest and I'd be the proudest hunter to ever walk the earth if I got a crack at him...no ear tag of course and not tame....

Heck, only 75,000 give me and address i will write a check. Damn that is a lot of money, but sure is a nice elk.

Hornseeker,

I guess I like to kill to much than worry about if he is a fair chase animal.

nbjbhunterman, There are other sites that cater to guys that just like to shoot and kill. Go there. mtmuley

Hey mtmuley,

I am so sorry to want to kill animals for there antlers and meat. I didn't mean to offend someone like you who just doesn't like pulling the trigger. May'be you yourself should go to a photography website. This site might be too much for you.

NBJB

Your full of crap if you don't enjoy killing a deer!!!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-04 AT 10:37AM (MST)[p]I could be wrong but I think this bull is for sale so another elk rancher can continue using him for breeding the cows, not to shoot. Maybe they are selling him as a shooter but an elk rancher will try to get their money back out of him by using the genes he has breed more and bigger bulls. Plus who cares if they are selling him as a shooter if they are. If someone has the money and want to shoot it, go ahead, as long as the meat is used.
Me personally, if I was rich, I would probably have my own ranch to begin with. Yes the elk huntign would be good because I would be the only one hunting it. However, there wouldn't be any 8' fences and the elk would still be 'wild', maybe not spooked which does help but still you get the idea.
I definitely would not walk into and enclosed area with 8' fence to shoot ANY kind of elk, no matter how big, even if he scored 700. What does that prove?

Them game farms instead of using bugles and cow calls they just start up the feed truck. they come running without holding up to see what you are. LOL
