Drop Camp Success!

Has anyone had an enjoyable drop camp experience? My dad and I are looking for a drop camp that is not going to be a BIG SUPRISE when we get there. We are searching for someplace in Colorado, Montana or Northern Idaho for Elk with an added bonus of Mule Deer. We do not have to harvest an animal to call it a successful trip. We have heard some horror stories of drop camps being away from the paid hunters and the animals along with not providing what was explained in the package. I have looked into a handfull on the web, but it has become very confusing. Any information to point me in the right direction would be a great start. Feel free to PM me with names or contacts. Have enjoyed the knowledge gained on this forum for the last few years - first time posting. Thanks ahead of time.

I have never done one yet for reasons you stated, and I cannot blame outfitters, if I had guys paying me $4,000 and guys paying me $1,000 you have to give you best spots to the higher paying clients, that is buisiness. That said I have heard stories about great drop camps. If it were me I would pick a unit, then a spot, based on speaking with guys who have hunted there and fish anf game people, then find someone to pack me to my spot - not find someone to pack me to "their" spot.

Thanks for the input. We tried that route a couple years ago with out much luck. I can not blame them for the $1600.00+ vs. the $4000.00+ either. As long as they mentioned that up front. Thanks again.

I would reccomend Ray Heid out of Clark Colorado. I've used him in the past and he was very helpfull.
