Changes to NM Big Game Rules Booklet

I recently visited the NM Department of Game and Fish's website and noticed that they have posted the draft changes for next year. One interesting item was that they are creating antler point restricted units for elk. It states that Units 4, 16(A,B,C,D,E), and 34 will have point restrictions. This means that the elk must have 5 points on one side minimum. Also, Units 12,34, 37, 43, and 50 will have late season archery hunts that will be over the counter. These hunts will have antler point restrictions of 6 points on one side. Just some changes I noticed which might interest some.

sounds good to me? I wish Colorado would do some 5 pt rules. With all the elk and habitat colorado could be awsome!

I just went through the regs again and dont't see any of this listed.

Lots of big changes, I like most if it so far - will change my plans for this year quite a bit. I am seriously thinking about 34, hunt will have very very low success and might not be worth a drive from Ohio but who knows.

Schmalts, take a good look there is a lot of potential.

THINK ITS A GOOD THING THAT DEER IS GOING TO A DRAW SYSTEM BUT SOME OF THE UNITS ARE CRAZY. UNIT 37 FOR THE FIRST HUNT OF THE RIFLE SEASON HAS 1,000 TAGS AND THE SECOND HAS 600. WHATS THE POINT OF HAVING A DRAW SYSTEM. MUZZLELOADER UNIT 15 HAD 500 TAGS. WENT TO UNIT 15 FOR ELK THIS PAST YEAR AND ONLY SEEN 4 DEER IN 4 DAYS. THOUGHT THE STATE IS TRING TO GET THE DEER HEARD BACK UP. THOUGHT THE REASON FOR A DRAW IS TO KEEP THE NUMBER OF HUNTERS TO A REASONABLE AMOUNT.
