elk around island park, rexburg, idaho falls?

I've hunted deer for years, but I want to take my wife elk hunting for her first ever hunt. I've never hunted elk. We found an area around Rexburg that has elk. We want to go on some pre-season scouting trips.
What happens if I bugle or cow call during this time of the year? Does it work, or does it scare them off?

I live in this area and can assure you that preseason calling around these hard hunted, call-shy elk will educate them and make them harder to hunt. My advice would be to watch them from a distance, tell no one, and leave them alone. Come opening day, get in there and try to get one.

Elk in Island Park area are very call shy, even the Harriman herd is becoming less vocal, better to just watch this time of year

Do you guys think I stand much of a chance with a bow, or are most of the hunts on the open plains? I really want my wife to get something... even a little cow would be thrilling for her. Any tips on where to go?

During Sept. I see more elk up in the trees, if you know how bows are possible. about 20% archery success according to IDF&G
