Area 211/212 Deer

I drew a deer license for area 211/212 this year. This is Esmerelda County SW of Tonopah on the state line with California. I had the same license in 1995 and shot a decent buck, but never saw a big-timer. I called the biologist a couple of weeks ago and he was not optimisitic. He said deer densities are very low and that I should only see one buck in a week of hunting. The drought is hurting this area.

As always, I'm not asking for a honey hole; just thoughts. The area goes from Bounday Peak, the highest point in Nevada to the north end of Death Valley and has some pretty tough country in it.

I'm thinking of staying to the desert-type of country. I like hunting the open and won't likely have any fun in the junipers or pines. I'm coming by myself the week of Thanksgiving, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My son had a youth tag 4yrs ago in that area, (the only one out of five that he did not fill, in the last 5 yrs). That being said, there are deer in that area but they are mostly migration deer. We hunted the Lida pass area, and only saw 1 doe and 2 lions. The weather was warm, so the migration herd was not there. I talked to someone at one at one of the houses there and they said there are deer there but mostly when the weather pushes them out of CA.
We also hunted the NV part of the White Mts, near Boundry Pk.
My son missed a chance at a shot by a couple of minutes.
We spotted some thru trees at 400yds, and when we cleared the trees they were another 800yds away and moving fast.

Hope for bad weather, before Turkey day or it will be a tough hunt.
We have hunted the area north of there 202,205,206, for the past 3yrs, and will this year also (youth tags). Success every year, but bigger deer with early storms in the season.

Good Luck!

D13er,

I don't get your post?????? That post does not mention 211/212. Did I miss something? I hunted 114/115 late muzz in 2000, but that's a long way from 211/212. Let me know if you know something I don't or I can shoot a pm to someone as well.

Thanks.

One big dumb 30 incher wouuld be enough. But they aren't behind every rock. I'll keep looking and if anyone has suggestions, I would sure appreciate hearing about them.

Might also mention that I'm not much interested in quantity. Just one big buck will do (like most everyone else.) I don't care if I come home empty; I do that a lot. But I'd like to have a chance to hunt hard and see at least one big-time shooter.

Thanks again.
