Just thought I would throw out this question.
8 bonus points, which limited entry archery elk unit would you put in for?

Hoytcam, maybe we should touch base prior to the draw...looks like we both have 8 bonus pts!

Manti, Wasatch, Fish Lake, Book Cliffs ( Both ), Boulder, Dutton, N.Cache, S. Cache, 3 corners,9 mile, Diamond Mtn ..just to name a few that you have a chance to draw this year.

From the sounds of it including myself alot of guys will be jumping over to the archery units this year with 8 or 9 points trying to get drawn before the age class of bulls goes down. Odds just might not be as good for archery this year as some might think comparing to the 2004 hunting bonus point drawing odds.GOOD LUCK

Hope those who are thinking about jumping from rifle to bow have hunted with and were successful with a bow previously. Would be kind of tough blowing 8 or 9 points and not being proficient at archery. Best of luck to you!

Good point Elk Slayer. There were several hunters this year who went home with an unpunched tag who weren't holding out for anything special. There are a couple of units that have so many elk it would be hard not to get a decent bull, but some of the really good units are tuff to hunt with a relativly limited number of animals.

Archery hunts never do have a high rate of harvest. You are right elkslayer anyone that has not hunted alot with a bow should be prepared to go home empty handed. It doesnt matter which unit in any given state. It can be tough to get an ethical shot with a bow. I enjoy hunting with Rifle, muzzleloaders and archery equipment depending on what hunts I can draw.I agree with elkslayer dont waste your points if you have not had some bowhunting experience with elk unless you are willing to be satisfied no matter the outcome of your hunt.

I'm not jumping from rifle to bow. I've planned on hunting my bull with a bow from day one. Your odds are drastically reduced with a bow. I hope there are not too many people planning on making that jump.
