Well I'm not to good at storys but I will try.
First off my family has property in the Silvies Unit. They have been hunting this area for over 35 years, so we know the area pretty well. It starts off with the first season group of hunters, they tagged out on 3 small bulls while seeing two BIG bulls but they never could get close to them. So they didn't really get anything to brag about. Then it's our turn to go second season. Remember this is my first time hunting for elk (this is my inlaws property. So I guess I was accepted into the family and got a LOP tag :). But anyways, the first hunt of our season began with me sitting on a stand while some of the others worked a big draw towards us. I was way away from my father inlaw who was also on a stand. I was having a little trouble finding the spot where he wanted me to stay, so I made my best guess and sat and waited. As I was standing there I see my brother inlaw come out of some thick junipers so I waved him down and he started to angle over towards me. when he was about half the way to me I heard one of our friends in the trees yell "HERE HE COMES" and the next thing I know a 4x5 elk came running out right on the other side of my brother inlaw. BOOM one shot is all it took and he had him self a nice elk... Later we went back in the trees and you could see where the elk winded Tyler(bro inlaw) and turned. If Tyler was not there the bull would have ran right at me!!! But I would probably still be shaking right now, just seeing Tyler shoot him I was soooo Jacked-up it was unreal... And then I will finish this post with one other story. On the third day of the season I was selected to make a still hunt on a big raveen with another guy and they told us to go down this two track road about 100 yards and split up being seperated by about 60 yards and wait about ten minutes for my grandfather to drive around the raveen to the end of it. So when we went down the road the guy was kinda telling how this raveen was and that stuff since he has hunted it before. So as we get in I wanted to walk the far end so I head down about 60 more yards from my buddy and sat and waited for my ten minutes or so. So as I was there of course nature called and I found a nice tree to relieve myself on, as I'm doing this I hear some twigs or branches break off in the distance. So I thought nothing of it cause these are the "SOUNDS OF THE FOREST" right??? So anyways we work this raveen down and up as we get to the end we came together and started talking about what we saw an I saw a few fresh tracks but could not see whether they were coming or going, But my buddy said he saw quite a few tracks and said we must have just missed them cause they were fresh as can be..... So then we told my father inlaw what we saw and heard, and needless to say they were a little angry with me cause we went farther down that two track road and you could see where the bull was breaking. My "SOUNDS OF THE FORREST" branches right below me.. So we ended up hunting the direction the elk were headed in and then an uncle and cousin got the big guy in the pics.. So almost twice for me but it didn't happen for me!!!! Maybe next year.... BUT is sure was FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
