Ok Like most of you I'm sure you are now putting in for the Elk draw's my question for all of you is this, I am putting in mainly for CWMU's I don't plan to get drawn since this is my first year for putting in but I do however have a little hope, but anyway is there any way to find out exactly were the CWMU's are located there is one in particular that I'm interested in putting in for I have seen that they are a CWMU because of signs they have posted around their fences but I do not know the name of that it is listed under on the areas. Is there anyway to find this out?

they are required to put the areas name on the flyers that they post in the trees. if you want to e-mail me mabye i can help you out with the area in question. is it in northern, southern, or somewhere in between? there are so many cwmu areas that are close or right next to each other. i know of several who border each other. my e-mail is [email protected] or you can just reply here if you dont mind every body knowing the area in question...

Jake,

I would not advise putting in for a CWMU without first speaking with the operator. Each unit is ran differently and you will want to have an understanding of the rules that you have to play by before drawing a tag. Also, you will be able to get an idea of what kind of animals are being taken on the particular unit.

thanks for the advise, and help, I am going to be putting 2 cwmu's for 2 of my choices, well maybe one cause I'm kind of thinking that the other one might not participate but anyway, one of them we know the owner and hunt coyotes and rabbits on his ranch and the other one we hunt on the property that borders his land, I don't remember seeing any signs this last year(2004) but I did see them in 2003, we also used to hunt on this land several years ago when we were members of a group called united sportsman. But I don't really plan on getting drawn since I have 0 points but you gotta start sometime I guess.

Jake,

The odds are much better for CWMU's when you have low bonus points. At least the ones that I am familiar with. It sounds like you are on the right track.

The previous post was correct. You must contact the
operator before putting in for these hunts. They can
be great or a total disaster. Also, ask them which days
you will be allowed to hunt.

Many times preference is given to the "paying" customer.
I would also try to contact other hunters that have
drawn the area(s).

The CWMU hunt that my dad hunted last year was excellent.

Good luck

Jason
