I can finally share with you all a photo of Jill's bull. It has been officially scored at 395 gross, 385 net. It should place in the top 10 and as far as we can tell, is probably the largest bull yet taken by a woman in Utah!

Dub, I'm sure you've already seen this, and what do you think the odds are that your bull and this bull had the same daddy? It strikes me curious that the non-typ off the 4th looks very similar, don't you think?

Utah, nope, it's a Dutton bull. Methinks the genotype of a wandering ancestor is present, or there is something present on the units that develop that type of point, much like you see non-typical deer in one area but not the other. What do you think?

I am no biologist, but I think that you are onto something. It is my understanding that when they had the bluelight special on cows over on the fishlake and boulder that quite a few elk moved towards the dutton and even as far south as arizona. I don't know how true it is, but those elk were hunted for a few years from mid-august to late january. It is not hard to conceive that bulls on the dutton have genes from the boulder. Congrats on a great bull.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-06-05 AT 12:59PM (MST)[p]Utah, I'm no biologist either, but I think we all know that two things contribute the most to antler type and growth- genetics and food. So it's either one or both of those, I would presume to think. I have never seen a non-typical point in this location on the main beam before, and then when I saw Dub's, it got me wondering.

I guess that's what makes these animals so fascinating, from afar they look the same, but really just like any animal, they are individuals and have some really neat individual characteristics. Makes you appreciate them even more.

Sweet looking bull. I have a set of 7X8 2003 sheds from Dutton that I had mounted that have the extra point coming off behind the G-4. I've also found a couple others with the same thing.

Once again, nice bull for Jill. It was hard to sit on these photos for the last couple months and not be able show'em around.

I would say same gene pool. Those Dutton/Boulder elk are always crossing back and forth from unit to unit.

Awsome bull it does have a similar look doesn't it. When I saw the record from last year, I thought for sure they were brothers, but that was a pretty good distance apart. Who knows though, Elk are known for traveling good distances. Good for Jill, I do feel a little sorry for her husband though after reading her story. She's set the bar pretty high,...... Good luck hubby when you get your tag.

Awesome bull! My good friend has video of a bull on the wasatch that has matching N/T points just like that bull. He is a 7x7 now with the N/T points off the main beam by the fourths. I think it is more common than we may think! Have a great day.

This bull is from the boulder unit 2004 and it had a point coming off the right main beam which was broke. We also seen a bull scouting in july 2004 on the boulder unit that looked alot like Jills nice trophy.
