Can anybody explain the Montana draw to me this will be my first time applying up there and i don't quite get how it works. Here is the deal, My buddy and I have a ranch that we can hunt on and they said that we could get some sort of a landowner tag. Will this work for the combo deer and elk tag? And are you garanteed the tag? You still have to put in for the licence through the dow or dnr or f&g or what ever it is up there? And how does it work if you want to bowhunt? Any advice or explanations would sure help me out.
Thanks alot bowhuntinnut

Not sure about the combo hunt but ive hunted landowner in Montana, They have a pool of 2000 tags for landowners to draw from so your not guaranteed a tag. Although odds are pretty good. Youll have to see if they have a elk/deer combo. The landower has paperwork to fill out then he has to send it to you to sign. Hope this helps a little.

I don't think they have landowner combo tags but they might depending on the area cuz of course some areas are limited draw only & they wouldn't give the landowner all the tags he wanted. But for deer I think if you have a guy in the program it's guaranteed. But you can only hunt on his property. We used to hunt a landowners & got it every time & a friend still goes & gets it every time. Maybe we were lucky. Now we put in for the combo & get drawn every other year with no pref points & can hunt almost anywhere.

Knopfish, ive heard of the combo getting drawn every other year, is it the same way for just the general deer tag that has a pool of 2300. an every other year thing.

Thanks guys i just called the number on that site and got everything i needed don't know why i did not think of that before. Thanks again
