I am 0/2 on elk hunting this year and may get on the tercio ranch for a february cow hunt. I have never been there and so i was wondering if anybody has or has been in the vicinity. I know there is the famous Hill ranch and some of Vermejo close by (or bordering) and plenty of elk. it shouldnt be too hard (i hope). Any scenery pictures of the area? Culebra peak?
Thanks in advance! jeff

I lived in La Veta for a few years and know the area a little. I saw the biggest herd of elk in my life near Tercio. There were so many animals I couldn't even guess how many. It should be like shooting fish in a barrel if you have a cow tag. Lots of turkey around there too. I've been up Culebra Peak a few times. There are some bighorns that live up there. Stop in Ringo's and hit the deli if you get a chance.

Thanks Waygoner! I have not spent much time in southern CO as I live in northern CO and only go by there on my way to the inlaws in AZ. It looks like I will find outwhat its like the 1st saturday in Feb.! Is there much oak brush in that area? Is Ringo's in Weston? Thanks again.
Jeff

Around Tercio it's mostly pines, pinon, juniper, cedar. Not as much oak brush if I remember correctly. Ringo's is in Segundo. It's an old Italian grocery store that's been around since the mining days. Hope it's still there, I've haven't been through there in a few years.
