I'm looking at getting a new bugle does anyone have an idea on which one to get, and why. Any help is appricated.

I used to really like the berry thunder bugle. It sounds great and is easy to blow, I have since learned to use reeds well and mostly cow call now anyway. There are lots out there and many work well. Just pick one and practice with it a lot before the season.

I like the little one from primos. Its small and uses their snap on reed that don't tear up easy and it doesn't sound like the biggest bull on the mountain. I think they call it the pack bugle.

I realy like to use Primos Power Bugle to locate aniamls. It is one of the easiest bugles out there to us and sounds great. Once I have located a bull I will switch over and use severl different call calls (Reeds, Hyper lip, ect) untill I find one that I think the bull is responding to. The key is to practise with what ever call you us.

I second the little bugle that Primo's makes. Those little blue silicon reeds make it very easy and the sound is great. But definetly get good with the mouth diaphram, you can't beat it for ease of use.

Thanks everyone for the help I'll check into some and get after it.

I second the vote for the Berry Thunder Bugle. I checked alot of bugle calls before I bought mine and found that you can pick this bugle call up and blow a good sounding bugle in your first few tries. It is great because I don't use it every year but when I pick it up after a year or 2 without using it, within the first couple of blows I'm back in the saddle of sounding like a real bugling bull.

I like the Thunder Bugle with the Green Double Reed. After locating I switch to the Primos Ivory Palate mouth reed.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-05 AT 08:40PM (MST)[p]I use an E.L.K. Power Bugle with great results! Everyone in their brother is blowing the Primos and Abe calls around here and the elk know it. For the past 3 years I have been able to get the bulls to "light up" after my buddies have hit them with them with their Primos calls with no results. The Primos and Abe calls are great, just as long as every hayhoo in the county hasnt been blowing the crap out of them and "conditioning" the bulls. That is one of the problems around here.

I agree! I use my bugle (Primos Terminator) primarily as a locator --- a short, simple bugle sounding like an immature bull --- for pinpointing bulls BEFORE daylight, then stow it away (personally I think many hunters use their bugle calls way too much). I hi-tail it and try to get maybe 150 yards downwind of the bull I'm after, then slow down and cow call as things get "up close and personal" ...

Power bugle to locate. Go right to highest note immediately, let it cary and end with no grunts and just listen. Some people grunt so long they dont here the answer. Dont bugle other than to locate if you can help it. Cow call. There is SOME bulls that will ONLY come in to a bugle though and ignore a cowcall. Evaluate whats going on and catre to the bull you want to come in.

Thanks for all the info. I've been away from the home computer for awhile, work, work, work. I'll keep checking various bugles, and will get one in March so I can get after it. Then hope I draw. Thanks again
