Mathews Halon

LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-15 AT 01:57AM (MST)[p]With 5-7" brace height, 353 IBO, 30" axle to axle, 24-30" draw lengths to choose from...this bow seem perfect IMO. Wondering if the various brace height choices might affect the IBO?

Yes, the different brace heights and let-off effect speed.

I went with the 6", 70# & 85%.

Shot one @ 28" with a 405 gr arrow thru chrono at 305 fps.

Anything over 290 fps is fast to me, but what lamazed me is how quiet and vibration free it is.

It's built like a tank and tune ability should be simple and easy by design as well.

To answer your question in detail I looked up the specs:

Halon 5 = 353 fps @ 75%, 349 fps @ 85%

Halon 6 = 345 fps @ 75%, 343 fps @ 85%

Halon 7 = 335 fps @ 75%, 333 fps @ 85%

I have a crush on the Halon X - 35 inch ATA 7 inch brace height....hope I draw a tag good enough to justify buying it.

I ordered a Halo 6 in Stone, my first new bow in 18 years! Getting pretty excited to get back into it!!

I'm in a similar situation as my MQ32 is over 15 years old. I'm pretty excited about the upgrade.

Do have yours in hand? Curious how long Mathews is taking to fill orders.

Yes, it is in my possession, but not setup yet: busting up for all new accessories...

Delivery took approximately 2 months time.

Finally got accessorized yesterday. With the matching 6 arrow quiver, MBG Ascent Verdict 0.010" green sigle-pin,matching QAD rest, and Black Eagle Rampage .001" tolerance arrows w/ 3" vains, 100 grain field points and nockturnals.

26" draw @ 71 lbs.
26" arrow @ 410 grains
285 fps

I'm gonna go in sometime this week and shoot the old setup thru the same chrono.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-16 AT 09:23PM (MST)[p]I chrono'ed the old setup. So I gained 57 grains on my arrows, but still gained 30 fps...not bad.

Put some arrows into my old target and this setup definitely packs more punch...old target will no longer cut it; arrows are penetrating halfway thru the fetching.

Add a new target to the shopping list.

I am a HOYT GUY!
However this bow got me looking at Mathews. We tested it against several other bows for the course of 2 weeks, and came to the conclusion that it was a buy, and a leader.
It is fast, smooth, and easy to shoot.

Here are our test results no the Mathews Halon:

Mathews Halon:
Speed with 490 grain arrows, at 5 yards: 301 fps
Draw smoothness: SMOOTH, the Halon was silky smooth to draw!
Hand shock upon release: NONE, the Halon lead in the category! No vibration or hand shock.
Accuracy: Outstanding

Yeah, I am just so impressed overall with this bow. I never could have imagined a bow this fast to be so smooth, quiet, and vibration/shock free.

The hunting gods shined down on me with the timing of the Mathews Halon coming into my possession.

Now if they'll just grant me a tag or two...

6 Long Days left. I'm sure the Halon is amazing....just wish it was lighter, I'm not big on heaver bows I like carbon but the money is painful.

Picked mine up this week, can't wait to start getting it dialed in and speed test it. Went with the Stone color, 30" draw and 70 lbs.

Tony, is that a 6 or 7? I will be curious to see what it shoots feet per second. I went with the 6 since I only have a 27 1/2" draw. I shot a 5 spot 60 arrow group tonight. Scored 299 with 40 x's. I have zero regrets buying the halon. My drenalin is retired

Mine is the 6. Hoping to hit 300 fps with my 402 gr arrow.

You should be well over 300 fps with a 30" draw length. Mine shot 299 at 27 1/2" draw, 70 lbs, 390 grain arrow

Finally got a chance to get the chrony out and shoot, 290 fps with 402 gr arrow, 29.5" draw and 65 lbs. I backed down from 70 since my left shoulder has been hurting the last couple months. I think that will do fine!! Can't wait to start shooting longer ranges soon.

I've been noticing everybody has been going with the longer brace height. My wife drew a 16D tag in NM so i didn't want equipment to be an issue of why we didn't come home with a bull. so we went all out and got her a Halon 5 due to lower poundage and only a 26.5" draw. we are wishing now that we would have gotten the 50-60 pound because at first she was struggling to pull back 42 but after a month its cranked all the way up. I still shoot the Helium which a lot of people either love or hate.... Im a lover but back to the Halon 5.... One of the best bows mathews has came out with. i feel like the No-Cam was a huge step back except for target shooters.... I will definitely be looking to upgrade in the next year or two. She's launching the maxim blue streak 250's with a 100 grain rage in the lower 270's. i figured with her poundage id limit her to 40 yards on a animal..... not the case after the amount we've been shooting and seeing what this bow is capable of over the last couple months. 50 yards shouldn't be an issue with this set up.

Nice!!

Mathews is not lying when they refer to this bow as hard hitting. My setup packs significantly more punch than anything I've had previously.

I picked up my Halon 5 in stone last week. 28" draw 70 lbs shooting 432 grain arrow 291 fps. Should be great combo for a big bull this year.

will do she's getting excited. she looks at my 360 and 340 bull from there and says she's going to top it, so I'm either going to post pics of her unused tag or of a big bull haha

Update:

I am finally satisfied that I have everything dialed in with my setup; pushing it pretty close with my deer hunt starting on New Year's day.

I was not satisfied with the durability or longer range accuracy of the Black Eagle arrows, so I switched to the Gold Tip Hunter Pro arrows I really wanted to begin with. Now I am getting the accuracy I was expecting from this set up and am going into the hunt with full confidence in my equipment.

The one thing I am still adjusting to is the single pin sight. We'll see how it pans out on this first hunt with it. Hopefully I can break it in properly, and will have pics to post.

I just picked up the new Halon trying to decide which site to mount. I have an HHA on my Switchback XT and I really like it but I'm open to suggestions for something different?

Drew an excellent Archery antelope tag in Az ..... Ok enough reason to upgrade my bow. . Based in part on this thread I choose the Halon. It was very close with the Bowtech Reign but punched the ticket for the Halon . Still not a fan of the extra weight( I prefer a lighter bow) but man is it smooth , fast , and accurate . Shooting 27.5 draw , 383 gr and getting 297fps. Very Happy . Thx Leftturnabq.

No problemo.

After draggibg it aroubd on a January hunt I know I can deal with the weight (and I'm running a side bar); besides it's built like a tank, and that should go a long ways in reliability.

Enjoy it.

I just replaced a 2003 Hoyt Cybertec with a Halon 32. Boy its hard to believe how much better this bow shoots.

I know this is an old post, but it popped back to the top.

You guys are making me realize how inferior my 18 yr old Champion Buck is! It shoots 400 gr at 250 fps! If I draw the AZ elk tag next year, I'm upgrading!

Although, I've never missed a deer because I thought my equipment was inferior.
