OK guys I could use whatever help I can get.
I'm looking at doing a CO elk hunt again this fall either bow, or muzzleloader, and am looking at trying a new area and was hoping I could get some basic info from you guys.
The area I'm loking at is mainly the San Juan National Forest untis 70 or 71 I believe. I'm not lookign for anyones secret spots, jsut want to know if the area is very good early in the season, what I can expect for competition, what the access is like, hows the terrain (dark timber, aspen forests, high meadows, steep rock cliffs), is there alot of use by non hunters that you have to contend with. I've never been to the area, like I said jsut looking for a new area and a change of scenery.
I am also interested in whatever info you could volunteer about the Lizard Head Wilderness Area, I'm not afraid to go high and really work for a shot at an elk, but was hoping I could make the planning part a little bit simpler through here.
Thanks
Travis
