Just wondering if the bulls on the Elk Refuge are loosing thier antlers yet. Would'nt mind heading over there and doing the tourist thing but I'd rather go when you can tell a bull from a cow. Anybody know the status? fatrooster.

Come on man, elk don't start shedding tell the end of march beginning of feb. don't even classify yourself as a shedhunter.

All the bulls are still packin...

This last snow we got pushed a couple new ones onto the refuge.. We still need more snow though!!

Wideone,
I don't know how you were able to land a job and scout for elk at the same time!! How about those winter kills?? Shoot me an e-mail, I've got some pics I'll send your way. Got any pics of those moose sheds?? Stay out of trouble!

Wideone, HaremMaster;

you guys live in Jackson as well. Went out sledding this past weekend on saturday and sunday and all the bulls were still packin as of sunday evening. Headed up to togowotee lodge and along slid lake. Saw hundreds of elk, some deer, and a bunch of moose, we even saw the sheep by slid lake. I am not real familiar with moose and there habits but I am telling you we saw close to fifty head of moose and not a single bull, coincidence or have they already shed????

Moose shed antlers early that is why you were not seeing any bulls. They drop antlers alot earlier than say elk and deer.

I have watched bulls and they drop from the 2 weekend in march to then end of april, don't have to be smart to know the facts,

After shed hunting most of my life in my state I know when they drop. so don't act like an expect...

Bigmuley,

I've been spending a lot of time in the same areas. All the bulls are packing. Most the moose had dropped by the second/third week in January. Did see some good bulls though, I just can't wait for the snow to melt!!!

I also was by slide lake last week. About took out one of those sheep coming around the corner on my sled.. Have you been out looking for deer sheds??

I have been doing a little bit down in the "Hoback Nation" which is where i live. I was watching a buck that was a good deer and now he is no longer packing so we have been doing alittle bit of searching, mostly researching on how to hunt him in the fall, studying maps, taking hikes! My roommate wants to shoot him and I have promised to help him get on this deer come october so we have been doing some researching mostly because I am pretty new to the Jackson area, only been living here for about a year and a half or so. Working for a architecture firm in jackson.
