ive been looking for a good outfitter in nm (gila) can any tell me any thing about mick chapels outfit.or any thing about beaverhead outfitters. thanks

Tommy,

Both of those outfitters have solid reputations. I have hunted with the Weltys of Limestone Outfitters several times and like them. They mostly hunt unit 21 and 17. There are big bulls in that part of the world, but not elk around every corner.

i would bet a lot that if you took an average of the scores of the elk that different outfitters guided clients to, that mick chappel's hunters would have the highest average, by a big margin. his hunters consistently take huge bulls. big and gnarly.

Hunted Unit 52 muzzleloader antelope last year out of camp with Mick and his son. He's a quality, stand up guy, and was fun to be with and talk to. I would have no problems with his outfit.

Tommy,

Beaverhead would be an excellent choice, Jack lives in the Gila and so do some of his guides, The best elk hunters I know are his guides, The Gila is going to be a premier hunt next year we have got a lot of rain.

Also Derrel Welty is also excellent, I own ranches in 17 and 21 and he is the best in these areas.

New Mexico will be super for a number of years with the positive changes that game and fish is doing to bring up the trophy quality.

Beaverhead Outfitters...

I work with the Forest Service and lived at the Beaverhead Work Center for several years. I have watched Jack Diamond and his guides and would say they are a good outfitter. They have several places to hunt, both private and forest. You will either be set up at a remote cabin or pack into the wilderness. Jack Diamond, his son and his guides are good guys.
I wont give out any specifics on that unit but I will say that you will have a good time and see quality bulls. Especially this year with all the rain. good luck
